Changing wheels vs tyre pressure indicator

Hi there, just looking for some help.
Im upgrading wheels on my 2011 Polo, going from 15" to 17" and just now started to think about the tyre pressure indicator system set up in the car. What to I need to do to transfer from old wheels to new ones? Does anyone know where they are located, or has done this before?

I change my wheels every November and April (summer and winter tyres). It's in the handbook, you need to reset the tyre pressure indicator by holding down the button in the glove box as I recall - November is long ago now...

Just change the wheels and hold the down the button in the glovebox for a couple of seconds. The system is worked by your ABS I believe so there's no sensors to move from your old wheels!

Hi there thanks for the prompt reply, you are right it works thru ABS so no need to worry about sensors, just reset the buttom in the glove compartment and job done! Thanks again!

The tyre pressure indicator came in the comfort pack option available in Ireland when buying a Polo, im pretty sure its not standard unless u r going for the highline model. Not sure about gti...

I'm not convinced its soley relative to the ABS at all. I've changed my GTI wheels to 18inch and have always reset the button however last week my tyres were well down on the 38psi I had in them...6 psi to be precise and I had no warning the pressures had dropped.

Previously with the 17inch wheels I was getting warnings even with a 2psi drop.

They do work off abs sensor it calculates the revolutions, it is a s**t system but is becoming new legislation i believe.
There are more accurate systems which have pressure valves e.g. Audi RS6, A8 etc but they sensors are made of soft ally and they corrode and snap.

Most cars when you reset the tyre pressures you are ment to press and hold the TPMS button in the glove box i think for a few seconds it just re-calibrates the system.

BMW's usually come on every two mins when there is no pressure drop.

The system works by measuring the relative speed of the ABS ring and where the ring is positioned in regards to the sensore for each wheel. If one tyre is going flat by a quick and considerable margin, then it will display a worning. If you have a slow leak however, it doesn't show up. Yes, it's a crappy system and it's mainly there for those of us who's brains don't work until 10am in the morning so we don't check the tyres before getting in the car to go to work ....
