new polo wiring problem

hello, my wife recently bought a second hand polo, 1.9 sdi 2004,the drivers window motor was turning but the window wasnt moving, i had to change the regulator,which i did, but the wiring seems all messed up,now the window motor doesnt work with the switch, the window only goes down when i unlock the drivers door with the key, when i adjust df mirror, the pass f mirror moves as well..i checked the fues box,and i can see that there was a melting incident,and it looks like 3 fuses have melted, and have been removed by previous owner...what i think i need to do is replace the whole fuse box, but i do not know how to disconnect the original fuse box, i know where it is, but there is a big wad of cables holding it in place,how do i disconnect them?
