In Desperate need of HELP !!!!

Post by CalvinGTI »

Ok After buying Harry's 17" i decided to 'cheap out' and get some non-adjustable suspension. thought it was wise as i promised myself i wasnt going to pour thousands into this Gti, as i spend money far to easily hah

Anywayz, after fitting the suspension it worked luverly on my 15 Inch wheels (standard 16V ones) but then when i put the 17"'s on i noticed on some corners the outside wheel will catch on the arches which is really ANNOYING !!

Has anyone else suffered problems like this? How did you fix it.

Obviously i understand my choices are:
1, Roll the arches
2, Buy new suspension (expensive top adjustable stuffs)
3, change my wheels (NOT gonna happen)

I also thought about maybe forking out for some powerflex bushes as well as an anti roll bar for the front.

Anyone think this will actually make a difference and stop the cars bodyroll enough for it to NOT catch on the arch or am i simply wasting even more money.

Would love to hear peoples thoughts on the situation, or even any deals people are willing to put forward.

If someones got some decent stiff suspension and wants to maybe sort out a deal, id be more than willing to listen.

Really coming to the end of my teather with the situation, as you know i drive my cars hard and this is ruining all of my fun !!

Still. . .the car looks heavy sitting on them 17" mwahaha !!

calvin, motors looking good, get some coilovers it will stop the scrubing and you can still drive hard without the wheel catching anywhere.

get some decent coilovers (h&r) you won't need to cut or roll the arches.

To be honest, im not 100% sure where it is catching, i might get someone to drive it at the weekend so i can hang out the passenger door and see what its catching on cos there doesnt seem to be any scuff marks on the arch.

So. . .the wheel must be scuffing on the inside material that lines the inside of the arch, the flitch panel ? (forgive me if i have lebelled it wrong)

im gonna have a detailed look this weekend so ill let you know mate !

ok the only stats i know for my wheels (im a thickie yes i know)

the wheels are 17" with an offset of 35, i think hah

and the tyres are Pirelli P-Zeros 195/40/17

Have i missed anything?

I need H&R coilovers ! anyone got any for sale?

:)

do you recon they would have still rubed on ofset of e38? if you remove the plastic liners its not the end of the world is it or you coulf bend the out or in and cut them a bit. if you ever waqnted to replace them etc i bet there not expensive

what you need is some stiffer suspension to stop the wheel rebounding into the arch and the tyre touchng the inside of the arch liner.

17s look wicked. if u went for 195/40/16 they wont scrub at all so no modz needed, but tyres are ££££££
