4-2-1 manifold?? Will it fit??

My mates offered me a 4-2-1 manifold from a 1.6 mk4 golf and says it should be a straight fit due to it being a 1.6

Can anyone confirm that this will fit my 6n2 gti??
I just don't fancy buying it to find out it won't fit! so if anyone on here knows then the help would be much appreciated :-D

It wont fit mate, different engine altogether unfortunately

If your looking for a manifold then check out the raceland manifolds that Kam Racing supply which is a 4-2-1 however does require slight modification for a good fitment.

No worries mate :)

Exhaust Manifolds for the GTI are a bit of a grey area because the only one available is the Raceland which will fit both the Polo GTI (+ Lupo) and the 1.4 16V Polo's.
Its not a direct fit due to it fitting several different models so there is work needed to be done and the cleareance on the sump is not very good either.

Kam Racing have produced a top quality 4-1 Manifold for the Lupo GTI which gives gains of over 10bhp but sadly they have only made it for the Lupo and unlike the Raceland it wont fit the Polo GTI too. Its a proper custom made Manifold which looks the muts nuts but they wont produce one for the Polo due to demand :(

Yeh I've heard no manifolds are easy for these gti's :-(
Shame the kam racing don't fit tho! Spose I'll look into the raceland mani and get it fitted up with custom exhaust system with sports cat and hidden tailpipe all in 1 go ;-)

Won't be cheap but I'm sure it'll be worth it :-p

Yeah that would be a good set up mate :) exhausts are never cheap in fairness

Worth paying for a good set up though, I envy VAG cars now because a good system with Manifold is around £800 in comparison to good branded Japanese parts which range from £1500-2000.

My backbox, centre section, sports CAT & Exhaust Manifold have set me back nearly £1400 and that doesnt include labour charges either lol crazy money for very little gains too

Yeh I know what your saying bout the money lol not good but I think it's a must, always helps the sound ;-)

£1400 is alot of dollar tho mate and labour charges are going through the roof these days too :-(

Did you have a manifold on your gti?

Yeah its crazy money mate unfortunately but i'm no good at sourcing good second hand parts lol

I did buy a Raceland Manifold for my GTI and had it fully prepared & heat wrapped so it looked the business but unfortunately never got it fitted, when I sold my GTI last year I sold off a few parts to Matt (Endi_GTI) so he had the manifold off me

Yeah mate they dont come up for sale very often second hand

See them every now and again on Clubpolo but I always tried to avoid going on there :)

Here's a link for a new one

They have gone up a hell of a lot in the last 2 years, paid £170 I think for mine new back in 2009 but then spent another £80 getting prepared for fitment

Thanks Ben :-)
That's not a bad price really I was expecting alot more expensive :-)
Where did you send yours to get prepped and ready to fit? I'm guessing exhaust specialist? Lol

No worries Luke :)

Yeah it’s not a bad price really but it’s just a shame the prices have gone up recently.
As far as the prep work goes the two items I have labelled in the picture are not necessary for the GTI so have to be removed, they are only used for the 1.4 16V Polo's so need to be removed. The holes where it bolts to the block also have to be re-bored by a couple of mm because they are slightly too small.

The Manifold doesn’t come with a gasket either so you will need to buy one of them from Volkswagen or GFS, TPS etc, the original GTI gasket fits fine.

My dad’s a toolmaker so fortunately he took care of all the prep work for me however my mate helped heat wrap the manifold for me which is where it cost the extra £80.
The heat wrap was pretty pricey and then I needed protective coating and stainless steel cable ties too.

Heat wrapping the manifold isn’t necessary though, It just basically gives a little extra performance and helps keep the temperature down in the engine bay.

If you do buy one of these then take it to an exhaust specialist and they will take care of the prep work for you, there isn’t really that much that needs doing but it’s the sort of job you want doing properly. Some people also have the manifold bent for better clearance on the sump but this isn’t actually necessary and I didn’t do it to mine.

Here's what mine looked like after it was fully prepared....and later sold lol :)

The Stainless small pipe you can see in the pics comes with the manifold and it needs to be welded to the CAT.
Either that or you will need a custom de-cat pipe made like Craig did with his, probably the best option but obviously causes issues for MOT's

Hope this helps mate

Yes mate that helps alot :-) unfortunately I wouldn't know where to start so I'd send it to the exhaust place :-p I'm planning on a sports cat too as I want to keep it legal for mot reasons.

It's still a while off yet but now I know alot more info I can start saving and once I've bought the manifold hopeful that'll get the ball rolling ;-)

Thanks Ben :-)
