1.2 TSi Economy

Post by AJ_7 »

Thought i'd share this for any prospective buyers of the 1.2 TSi Polo. I went on a trip with work and before I set off on my way back, I filled up with 42 litres of Shell V-Power. As I was getting paid for the journey and it was my fuel I was burning, I thought i'd take my time and see what economy I can get out of my Polo. The journey was 105 miles of all motorway, to which I maintained a steady 55-58 mph in the slipstream of a HGV. I very rarely took it to more than 1,800 RPM.

I presumed it would hit somewhere around 62 mpg as advertised in the brochure. Just as I left the motorway, I took a photo of my average MPG over my 105 mile journey. Who needs a BlueMotion? 8)

Thats good that
I filled mine up when i bought it and it is showing 299.5 on the trip with 50 miles to re-fill now :? I do around 14 miles a day round trip doing 30mph then 1 junction of the motorway at 70mph then 50mph on the dual carriageway. Mine is a 1.4 16valve Thought i would have got more distance than that.

Christ, that's averaging 35 MPG! I was pleasantly surprised though, normal motorway cruising I see it mid 50's. It was a toss up between the 1.6 TDi and the 1.2 TSi when I was buying mine and i'm glad I went for the petrol!

http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php try this i expect your be in for a shock you can massage good figures out of a trip computer what range did it predict

as for 35mpg out of a 1.4 sounds about right if your doing short runs i wouldnt expect anything much near 40 on long trips

the best advice i can suggest is the lowest quoted mpg figure will be the closet to real life situations

That's good news for me then. Got my 1.2 TSI on order for July. I'd be lucky seeing half that from my MK3 8v.

It's a truly awesome engine. I normally average about 500 miles to a tank and that's tonking down the motorway at 75-80 :)

How many miles has your car done? We are at 3700 now and I am finding on the motorway at a steady 70-75ish it averages 50mpg, around town and b road general driving I get the same.

Your post confirmed what I thought the engine is capable of if driven under those conditions, in the real world it's not quite as high but still impressive for such a small engine.
