Rcd510 + Rear Camera

Post by Boyracer_2011 »

Has anyone got one fitted?? Was thinking about getting the camera and just doing it myself.
Can I use any camera or do I need to get the proper one from Vw, seen afew cheapies on ebay.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have also looked into this, you need the proper one from vw because the RCD510 doesnt use an RCA input. There is a way that you can create a junction between the RCA of ebay cameras and the RCD unit but you need the correct wiring setup to link into the DIN plug that controls the inputs.

If you need a wiring diagram and pin layout for the RCD 510, let me know. I'm interested to see your results...

Ok I got am email back from my dealer and he said this...
" A camera is not available to be fitted to your vehicle. However rr parking sensors are £299.00 fitted inc painting & vat "
This is a blatant lie coz iv seen them on the 6r on the net.

Dunno weather just to get the sensors, or attempt to put the camera in myself??

Yeah, something like that. I'm really interested to see what you end up doing because even though the polo isn't a massive car, the high window line isn't great for inner city parking !

How does it start working when you engage reverse if its wired as above?

Slightly off subject I had a hire car with this function for the last couple of weeks and I am not so sure its a good thing to rely on the camera too much. I found myself not looking at what was happening around the rest of the car. Might just be me though!

I would have speced it if I am able and will be watching this with interest.

The loom tha is generated gets coded with VCDS to activate the reversing camera signal through the gear selection.

The other option is one of these units:

Or this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTERFACE-MU ... 3050wt_922

These can have multiple video inputs hooked in like DVD, tv etc. does involve opening the rcd510 unit though. I'm considering this if I go down the in-car pc rout for data logging etc...

The first one looks good quality ... So both these could be programmed to activate rear camera when reverse engaged?
I guess it must open the channel in the head unit some how?

Have you checked your RCD-510 has the video in port? The vast majority don't.

With some modifications it's possible to add the Mk6 Badge based camera that "pop-out" like this when reverse is selected: -

I have made lots of kits for Mk5/6 Golfs, Scirocco's, Tiguan's so if anyone is near Northampton and has a Polo with either the RNS-510 or RCD-510 with video in port and wants to be a Guinea pig for either the Mk6 badge camera or Scirocco style one (that mounts into the bumper in between the number plate lights) then let me know.

To be honest, I am not 100% sure but there is 2 or 3 looms that come with the unit so maybe it does have the automatic function...

To clarify, with the first unit, once reverse gear is selected then the camera should automatically turn on
