FOR SALE: 1992 VW Polo Genesis 1.3 Mint Condition!

Post by cr8ne »

You are bidding on my excellent & extremely rare late 1992 Volkswagen Polo 1.3 Genesis ‘Squareback’ finished in a lovely radiant red. This car is a three door, with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The sound 1.3 8v Multipoint injection engine (VW Engine Code ‘NZ’) runs beautifully with no funny noises or belt squeaks etc. All the gears engage properly and the car is exceptionally good on the motorway.

The car has been lovingly maintained since new, hence the overall brilliant condition.

The interior of the car is incredibly clean and tidy, there are no rips/tears/stains in or on the seats at all, or in fact any bad wear on any of the seats (which I have to say are very comfy even on long journeys in my experience!) The dash and door trims are perfect with no holes.

There are no warning lights on the dash.

Being a Genesis, the car was the highest trim level of the range – the top of the range being the G40! The Trim includes:

Upgraded G40 Interior Seats (Genuine VW fitted from New)

Rev Counter (most either have a clock or a blank space)

G40 Steering Wheel (Genuine VW fitted from New)

Body Coloured Bumpers (a modification done by myself – a lovely modern aesthetic)

Callipers & Drums Painted Red

Darkened indicator & rear lights – 100% legal as only a very light tint.

5 Speed Manual Gearbox

Car Mats

3 Good Wipers

Split Folding Rear Seats

Glove Box Compartment Door

12v Cigarette Lighter – extremely difficult to find one of the Mark 3’s with one of these in!

Sunroof – slide only (no leaks!)

I have made some slight alterations to the car myself – but nothing boy racer – more for safety and looks. These include:

G40 Genuine BBS RA Alloy Wheels (RARE – only set on eBay are £150!) (Fitted by myself – and will only be going with the car if it fetches sensible money as are in pristine order with minimal kerbing!) Otherwise the original Steel wheels with Hub Caps will be included – all in good condition with almost new Michelin tyres. – Spare in the wheel well is also pretty much a brand new Michelin.

Full Stainless Steel Cat Back Exhaust professionally fitted – cost £350 new from ‘Top Gear’ in Basingstoke and has a 1 million mile guarantee. This gives the car a lovely murmur without deafening anyone. This is the only ‘non-cosmetic’ modification to the car, apparently adds a few BHP if anyone is interested. This will be staying on the car.

Upgraded EBC ‘Red Stuff’ Front Brake Pads, which has improved the braking system exponentially. These will be staying on the car.

De-Badged Grill – the original grill with VW Badge will be included with the sale.

Upgraded Alpine Front Speakers (great sound from the original Blaupunkt!)

JVC CD Player – plays MP3/WMA and data CDs – Radio Works too. – Can supply the original tape deck if required.

Remote Central Locking with Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm & Immobiliser (fitted professionally with Thatcham approved Certificate & invoice)

The original parcel shelf is currently in the car – but I have a stealth shelf with two 500w 6x9 speakers in which is included with the sale. The car is wired for rear speakers, which are connected to the JVC head unit.

Colour coded ‘Ripspeed’ gear knob as the original plastic one began to crack, I Might still have it somewhere – I will have a look. Also replaced gear gaiter with a nice leather one – as the original VW one was like a thin pillowcase and had worn out.

The list of recent maintenance done on the car is as follows:

4 x New Spark Plugs

New Fuel filler cap – (Genuine VW) – due to the low position of the filler neck – many of these can leak petrol on roundabouts etc. This was replaced so as to avoid this issue.

4 x HT Leads

Rotary Arm (Genuine VW)

Distributer Cap (Genuine VW)

When purchased by us in 2004 it had a brand new petrol tank fitted as they do suffer with corrosion to the filler neck and begin to leak. This was replaced with a brand new tank and the fuel system flushed by the supplying dealer In Harpenden - Herts.

The Handbrake cables were replaced at the same time as it was recorded in the MOT as being ‘low effort’ – so they fixed that as well.

New Clutch (2011) à The one removed was the original.

New Fuel Filter

New N/S wing mirror (genuine VW) – the old one corroded and became unsteady.

New Air Filter

Two New Rear Wheel Bearings

New Battery (Bosch)

Lots of Oil Changes (due to Motorway Miles – every 6 months for the last two years!) Genuine VW oil filters used each time.

Coolant Change in 2011

Front Brake Hoses (Genuine VW)

New Steering Arms

New Shock Absorber (1 was leaking)

Gearbox Selector Seal Replaced

The car has 125,000 genuine miles on it with a Full Service History – of which the first 50,000 was with the same garage from new which we purchased the car from. The car has been in the family since 2004 – a testament to how truly amazing the vehicle is and my reluctance of selling it. The car had just the 1 owner from new when purchased, and has been handed down through the family to me by my two brothers who have meticulously looked after it – the car has 3 previous owners (two of which are my 2 brothers!) The car really has had no expense spared over the years – and it has been carefully driven and looked after.

The car also has:

4 perfect tyres with absolutely no cracking or bulges and a fair amount of tread. All the tyres have between 4mm and 7mm – legal limit is 1.6mm. Good for at least another 10,000 miles at least. The rear tyres were replaced late last year. All are Firestone branded. The spare is pretty much brand new!

Rear wash wipe (fully working)

I have both keys for the car, two petrol cap keys & two remotes for the Alarm & Immobiliser, which works perfectly!

The Car is Taxed until the End of September 2013 and MOT’d until September 2013. The last MOT was carried out at 104,500 Miles. I have no doubt that the car will fly through another MOT when it is due! The winner of this auction can happily drive this car away hassle free!

The car was last serviced at 120,000 miles and so will not be due for a little while yet!

The car also has a comprehensive service history with a fair few receipts – many of which are from the main dealer. The majority of all MOT certificates are present to back up its genuine low mileage of 125,000 (averages just 5952 a year since new!) I have looked through the MOT’s and I have every single one dating back to 2000. There are service stamps prior to 2000 to verify the mileage is true and genuine. I have the original HPI document to show the car is authentic and has never been involved in an accident. The car comes with the Original VW Owner’s Instruction Manual, Service & all other Associated Documentation in the original VW Wallet which is included in the Sale.

Being a 21 year old car, there are a couple of points I must make in order to be 100% honest about the car. The car has a small amount of rust forming on the sills – but this is all surface and not structural. The rear wheel arches are perfect, as is the nearside front – the offside front has a small amount which I have kept covered to prevent it getting any worse. There are stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet (due to the copious motorway miles I am currently doing) and some nicks in the front window. There is a small dent in the passenger door from where a large stone fell off a lorry and I tried to avoid it but it clipped the door. I have again painted this to protect it and stop it rusting (successful so far!) The only other dint is in the roof from where a firework came down one year and hit the roof – it was still on it in the morning! Other than this, there are other minor nicks on the car but nothing really worth mentioning, certainly no serious damage or deep scratches as you can see from the photographs! The car is immaculate inside: carpets, seats and head lining are perfect.

Furthermore most of these rare mark 3 Polo’s have bad corrosion around the fuel cap, where this example has none at all – see photograph.

Other than these minor points, it's an exceptionally clean car as you can see! The other points that I need to mention are that the fan currently only works on setting 3 due to the resister in the unit playing up and there is a small oil leak – coming from the cam/crank seal - £10 each seal, but I have not had time to get this done as the car is in constant use. The car runs perfectly as is but these seals will need changing eventually. I think the passenger side central locking door motor will need attention / replacement shortly – as it makes a slight noise but still works perfectly on the show of a key. I am mentioning all the above points to be 100% honest about the car.

The car has had 3 previous owners from new; the first being an elderly lady who gave up driving in 2004 but had purchased the car from new. The other two were my brothers.

The car has also had two brand new number plates (1 front, 1 rear) fitted to the car.

If you are looking for a project car, or a clean example of these rare models this is the car for you! It is an exceptionally good runner, which starts every time, first time. With low tax & insurance, it is also very cheap and economical to run. I am doing motorway miles every day and I am getting 350 – 400 miles (9 Gallon Tank – Approximately 40mpg from a 21 year old petrol!) The car is running exceptionally clean as you can see from the emissions on the latest MOT certificate. If you would like to view the car that is no problem at all, please give me a call to arrange it! I encourage viewing for serious bidders because it is a very smart little car which I will be sad to see go. The only reason for sale is the serious motorway miles I am now doing – I want the car to go to a good home.

If you would like any more photos of any other part(s) of the car please let me know and I can email them to you. Furthermore, if there is anything I have not answered on this listing that you would like to know, either ask the seller a question or call me on 07764966549 anytime.

I am accepting cash on collection only. The car has to go unfortunately so I am starting at 99p with no reserve - this is a 7-day auction only so grab yourself an absolute bargain and don't miss out! Please no time wasters or tyre kickers or hagglers - you are more than welcome to come and view the car during the auction - I reserve the right to end the listing early as the car is advertised elsewhere. You will not be disappointed - the first to see will buy! This is the absolute best example on eBay or AutoTrader nationally I can find.
