Headlight washer random prices!?

Post by 6n2stan »

I appreciate this is a common problem but I can't find anything in the archives on changing the headlight washer seals. Is it possible or not? Is there a repair kit?

I removed my front bumper today and after I'd pulled the washer jets up to remove the covers, they started to hoof out fluid, typical! My daily has leaked slightly for a while too so I thought I'd finally ask the question as they are useful to have through the winter!

Cheers.

Nope. You have to replace the chamber itself. It's a common failure.

The jet part removes from the chamber by including with a screwdriver - if you pull the jets up you'll see what I mean

When refitting you don't push the jet part back in fully till the bumper is back on and the caps refitted.

So is there an O ring in there? What is it exactly that perishes? I want to see if I can retrofit a repair, I've got nothing to lose

On the other hand, can I source said washer jet from anything else in the VAG stable?

Thanks again.

It's a pressure chamber and the internal seals blow. It's a fully sealed unit ultrasonic welded together so repairing is near impossible

The jets are also specific to the 6N2 so your option is another GTI or a new one from VW

So how does this work.......

VW dealer quotes me £16.15 each for a headlight washer. I always phone them first to get the worst case scenario, however....

TPS £37 a go! Are there different things I could be ordering here?

The part number search also throws up a SEAT model? True or false?

Cheers.
