NEWBIE! Please Help!

Hi,

I have a 2003 (52 plate) Polo S 5dr and I'm literally at my wits end!

In the past 5 weeks, the engine management light has come on 3 times!!! (Today being the third). Firstly, the lambda sensors were replaced, then secondly one of the cyclinders had gone and now today... well who knows!!

Since having the car for almost two years, I have spent over £2,000 on garage bills... the car previously was in perfect order (it was first my Aunts and then my Moms, so I know it hasn't been thrashed!)

I am just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues, or can offer some some of help or guidance! I really don't have the money to keep throwing at it and it is now really getting me down!

Which engine? I'd suggest getting a cheap code scanner off eBay, very useful little things.

Edit: Just thinking, if it's a 1.2, mine had a crack in the exhaust manifold, which ended up killing a Lambda sensor, so could be that again? Not cheap to fix if that is the case, it's one piece with the cat.
