Just bought a 2004 Polo TDI Sport, it's a great little car but requires some work, I’ve been searching through previous post which have been a great help but thought I’d collect some of my jobs together that require some assistance to get some help from you knowledgeable folk.
Power Steering
This appears to be a common problem on these cars, on mine there is no power steering at all and the warning light is on on the dash. I was initially planning to go straight in and replace the pump, however I have VCDS and the fault “01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500), 49-00 - No Communications” comes up on a few modules (Address 09: Cent. Elect.; Address 17: Instruments; Address 19: CAN Gateway). I noticed this on the Ross-Tech website (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01309) -
“If 01309 is stored in multiple Control Modules and the Steering Aid (#44/J500) does not communicate with the Scan tool, check the Steering Aid Control Module Power Supply. Assuming the Fused Power Supplies (typically 2 fuses are used) are OK, in almost all cases the actual Steering Rack (containing the Control Module) is faulty and needs to be replaced.”
I have no communication with the steering aid module and the fuses appear to be fine (apart from one for the lights). Is there any way of confirming if it’s the pump or the rack?
I’ve also read that the steering module needs to be reconfigured if components are changed, can this be done with VCDS and if so does anyone have any information on how to do it?
Coolant Hoses
The coolant hoses between the engine and heater matrix are splitting and require replacing. Are there any non-OE suppliers apart from Samco etc?
Oil Level/Temperature Sensor Fault
I also have the fault “00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266), 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus”, as far as I can tell there is only an oil pressure switch, is the fault referring to this or is something else afoot? The oil light on the dash flashes when keyed on but does go off when the engine is running.
Mystery Hose
I've also noticed that this hose is disconnected

It's near the ABS unit, anyone have an idea what it is? One side disappears through the bulkhead and the other into the NS wing.
There are a few other things that I’m working through which should be within my capabilities but I may call on your expertise again.
Thanks!
