Aux belt tensioner removal
Aux belt tensioner removal
Has anybody got a clue? I've locked it up with a pin so it can be unscrewed but how the hell do I get hold of it to turn it? Any help much appreciated as I'm stuck with my car in bits

Unlock it to start with
All you do is turn the bolt anti clockwise and it'll undo. Simple as that
When refitting, tighten till the tensioner engages then a quarter turn more

I'm on about taking the whole tensioner out not just the pulley on the end. I think there is a bolt behind the alternator so I guess you'd take that off then you'd be able to get it out.alexperkins wrote:Unlock it to start with

Re: Aux belt tensioner removal
Oh yes. There is a bolt. It's accessible without removing the alternator from memory
Re: Aux belt tensioner removal
I don't know how you'd get it off without shifting the alternator. Is there a diagram knocking around?alexperkins wrote:Oh yes. There is a bolt. It's accessible without removing the alternator from memory

Re: Aux belt tensioner removal
It is indeed. Spot on buddy
Re: Aux belt tensioner removal
Thanks for the help guys - consensus seems to be shifting the alternator and the bracket to which it mounts.
Back to the tensioner pulley - i'm 100% sure my actual tensioner is fine, the force its exerting is good and the belt is tensioned correctly as a result.
What is fooked is the pulley, unfortunately you have to buy the whole tensioner, so my plan is to just swap out the pulleys (largely to save the work on taking off the alternator bracket)
Idiot question, just to be sure! when you come to put the new pulley on the bolt tightens and then the tensioner engages, turning clockwise until it hits its limit. AFTER this point, do continue to apply pressure to the bolt for a quarter turn (as you say Alex)? Just want to be sure.
