Whilst I was trying to sort out my noisey aux belt I had a wheel nut shear off in the hub. Only option is to fit another hub I'm fairly confident of what I need to remove but can someone just give this list the once over -

Track rod end
Brakes (all parts)
Abs sensor
Ball joint
2 x bolts on strut
Drive shaft

Have I missed anything? Plus, is there anything I should renew whilst it's all off?

Has it sheared off deeper than a showing thread? Normally they are removable as the back of the hub is accessible with the brake disc removed.

That's correct though you'll only need to undo the drive shaft

Also replace the abs sensor rather than try and remove it. They are cheap enough and rarely come out in one piece.

i could get it out easy enough but i think the thread is gone in the hub as it didn't shear under lots of stress, it seemed like it may have cross threaded before jamming and shearing

i think the abs sensor will come out as i did it not long ago.

Do you reckon it's worth getting a new wheel bearing pressed into the new(second hand) hub?

I would get a bearing on any case. You can never be sure what state a second hand one is in, and given they are ball ache to change do it as a matter of course.

Which donor cars can I use for the hub? Don't tell me they're unique to the gti or I'll be mad haha

The hubs are GTI specific in afraid

However you in fact only need the part that the wheel bolts into so that's separate. It's in fact the Hub flange that you want And a new bearing

I'll dig the part number out

Genuine part number is 6N0407613

Get a febi front wheel bearing too

Sadly the whole hub housing has to come out to press the bearing out

Can't the bit the wheel bolts into be fitted without takin the wheel bearing out?

God damn it haha - I'm getting all confused. Probably be cheaper to get a hub and just swap out the bearing. as opposed to trying to salvage my hub.

i've sourced a hub from a breaker £35 inc postage so going to stick a new bearing on that whack it in - nice mornings work that i didnt need god damn cars!!!!

any idea on the wheel bearing part num? i think it's 6N0498625 but i can't find the Febi wheel bearing under this num
