Just installed the RNS 315 my problem is that the stereo doesn't turn off when I turn the car off nor does it turn on when I start the car up. I have have to press the power button to turn off and on!
What can be done about this?

That implies the CAN bus isnt online for the RNS315

Check that its coded properly in VCDS, but first of all, check its plugged in properly and nothing is loose on the wiring plug.

There isn't loose wiring I put my old stereo back in and that started up when I start the car and off when I turn the car off.
So I need a new can bus?

You may have a faulty rns315. You need to see if you can contact it on vcds

Once I connect it to that. What shall i do?

See if you can connect to the radio and then check for fault codes

What stereo was in prior to the upgrade ? RCD310 ? Did that work fine ? and turn on and off correctly.

The RNS315 is a straight upgrade and will work without any coding or modification.

Have you hard reset the unit ?

VCDS will show you any faults but also check adaptation (I'm not sure of any crazy options there maybe).

Yeah there was a RCD310 in there previous. That worked all fine.
How do you hard reset the unit?
Not only does the unit not turn off or on with the car but the lights don't illuminate in the stereo when I turn the side lights on. So I should just get it hooked up to VCDS and go from there?

Have you slotted the RCD310 back in just incase a wire or pin has come loose ?

I'll look up the hard reset and come back to you.

Its definately a can bus issue if the lights dont come on either
