Air Con/Engine Noise

Post by MattR »

Hi guys. I've got an annoying noise issue with my 64 plate 1.2 Polo TSI. There's a croaking (sounds like a cricket) noise which is constant after starting up the engine, and the only way I can get it to stop is by turning the air con ON - once on it sounds almost like pressure is being released and then there's silence. However once I turn the air con off, the noise is back and I repeat this process several times throughout my journey to avoid the croaking!

I took the car back a few weeks after first buying it to repair a dodgy seatbelt and at the time I asked the mechanic at VW to have a listen and he said it was just because the engine was so quiet, you notice things such as the fan belt.....this sounds like BS to me though.

I want to take it back to the dealers for them to check it out as it's obviously still under the 3 year warrantee, but just wondering if anyone else experiences this with their polo - and if it is normal?

Just an update to this in case anybody else has the same issue.

Took the car to a VW dealer who checked over the engine and said there are no faults. I went on a test drive with the mechanic who heard the noise coming from the engine but assured me there was nothing wrong and it was nothing more than a 'comfort issue'.

Does anyone else with the New Polo experience this noise? Or does your new polo sound like every other car I have ever driven or been in, i.e. no bloody noises! I'm really struggling to believe a brand new car is supposed to sound like a box of crickets are under the bonnet. This 'comfort issue' is making my girlfriend and I want to sell it after only a few months of buying the car!

I'd contact VW UK Customer Care and see what they say. Doesn't sound right to me.

You could also ask your dealer to take you out in ANY other new Polo that sounds like that to prove it is normal

Hi

We've been experiencing the same noise on our new (18 month old) polo.

We've not been as diligent as you and taken it further with our dealer because the sound isn't there all the time.

Have you made any progress since your last post?

I assume the radio is not tuned to the test match.

Sorry a totally unhelpful contribution but some things are just impossible to resist. I had a constant whine coming from the passenger seat, only stopped when my wife stayed at home.

Being serious though I've not experienced any such noises on mine and I do hope you are able to resolve it soon.
