I've found it difficult to come across reviews of the GTi so every time someone finds one I jump at the chance to read it. I think I can agree with everything the reviewer said, pretty much. Some interesting comments on the action of the gearbox though... and I sympathise with the bit about it "looking like a small Golf". 8 out of 10 people ask me if its a Golf!!

Thanks morrismen!

PS. Yup, it is pretty rare - but there seems to a concentration of GTis in and around the Sheffield area... must be about a dozen by now..?

I agree with 90% of this review. As for the part of someone not even knowing of a polo gti, that has occured to me many times.

I am one of the many polo gti owners in Sheffield, and although there's a few around my area, i'd prefer to see a polo rather than a saxo.

I'll love my little baby.

Saxos... Novas... Corsas... AXs... 106s... 206s... fiestas... I think thats about the lot of 'em! Polo always comes out on top for me, every time. When I'm driving about I only tend to notice VWs, the rest are just anonymous

haha Si_GTi

Spoken like a true King :)

I think ive only ever seen 1 black polo gti (standard) in my area, let alone raced another one !!!

i dont think ANYONE has actually correctly identified my car as a polo yet even if there looking at it from behind where it clearly says 'POLO' haha

they always say, "is that a golf?" Nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol

Anywayz like you say Si_GTi, i dont really notice other cars, they bore me, the amount of banged up fiestas and escorts in essex is unreal hah and Saxo's . . . . jeez . . They have to be the worst 'supposed' hot hatch ive ever seen. . .

There ugly, boring and mostly driven by 'class A' twats who think by having a 50 Foot 'fish-tail' on the back of there car it will somehow perform better . . HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM i think not

I just make it all better by overtaking them .. .ahhhhhhhh who needs drugz when u have an accelerator pedal

haha

Yeah, there seems to be a helluva lot of Polo GTIs in Sheffield...I do spot a new one every so often that I've not notice before...once was at Meadowhell and saw two others excluding mine!

Yeah, mine gets mistaken for a Golf alot...I was once asked by a petrol station attendant if it was a GTI and he thought I'd gotten a 1 litre jobbie and stuck some badges on it...so I wheelspun out of the forecourt and chucked a ignited match out of the window...ha ha ha!

Just going back to the original post................

There's a pretty good review of the Polo GTi in issue 1 of Volkswagen Driver magazine. There's also an article in an issue from last year, Can't remember which one off hand, That follows up on the GTi a couple of years after release and asks what present owners think of the car. the same issue also has a bloody good article on Xenon lights too.

Both pretty good articles. I actually bought the 1st issue as a back issue from VW Driver themselves just for the GTi review.

Cheers

Dave.

Both me and Josh were featured in last years VW Driver magazine, I cannot remember how on earth I found out that they were looking for Polo GTI owners but I wrote in and managed to get published!

About the above link, I totally agree with the comment about the rear window being the dirtiest and attracting the most grime!

BUMP! :)

Found another road test from back in the day, this one from Channel 4!

http://www.channel4.com/4car/road-tests ... 00-02.html

Its pretty concise, and includes some views posted by Polo owners - most of whom wanted to see the Lupo's 6-speed 'box in their Polos!

Enjoy.
