1.2 polo dies then fine again

My 55 plate polo 1.2 3cylinder stated to hesitate earlier on.
It then drove fine for a couple of minutes then just outside my house it had almost full power loss down to 10mph from 30mph then it picked up again

I'm mechanical minded and I'm going to investigate tomorrow but not too clued up on these.

Is this common for these things and what would you recommend starting fault finding?

I have vagcom but cable is goosed so can't read codes

You'll want to do a full scan with vcds. Could be a faulty coil pack or spark plug. Even a blocked fuel filter

Absolute Worse case scenario the timing chain may have slipped a tooth. It's becoming very common even more so in the winter months
