Dash lights with side lights 6c GTI

Hi,

Anyone else notice the dash and instrument back lighting doesn't always come on when you out your side lights on? I figured it might be light sensitive but I went through a tunnel and the instruments still stayed dark, only come on with headlights on!

Anyone else having this problem and do I need to take it back?

They are light sensitive aswell usually only comes on when direct sun is on it ... it works the opposite from what youd think
