I'm usually so so careful.
Have a 2016 Polo GTI.
Twice in three days I kerb'd it. Gutted. Nasty scuffs on front left and back left.
Had a quote of £80 per wheel for a full diamond cut.
Sound good?

I feel your pain, that moment you hear the wheel on concrete is a sound no one should have to hear.Mrjaffa wrote:I'm usually so so careful.

I'd between £75-£80 is about right. My Mrs did a good job kerbing our DS4's diamond cut wheels and our quote was £75 in Essex.

Re: Alloys scuffed
I treated my new gti to a wash as well as a nice scratch across the bonnet.
I'm being told they have to spray the entire bonnet and its a £300, 2 day job.
does that sound correct?
seems strange they cant do a patch repair in this day and age.

Re: Alloys scuffed
That sounds about the going rate (does it include VAT?). In addition to the refurb cost, some wheel refurb companies may charge extra to remove and refit the tyre and balance the wheel.Mrjaffa wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2017 1:45 pm I'm usually so so careful.

Re: Alloys scuffed
I think that the need to spray a complete panel stems from the high probability that a customer would reject the repair on quality grounds if they attempted to be helpful and just repaint a small area for less money! So why would they look for a harder than need be life?
I've had a car sorted out by an approved paint place, and in my eyes quite a lot of that job was just "smart repair" type of work with also some panel repainting, they must have priced it up and repainted the complete side of the car.
Edit:- not saying that I would go down this path as a repair, but I'm sure that a proper paint detailing person could hide/disguise that scratch to the level that if you were about to buy that car, you would not notice it - but that is the problem, you know where it is so will be looking for perfection understandably, so that is where the repainting that panel comes in as being the correct way to restore that car.

JB1980; Can't really tell from the picture, but if you can't feel the depth of the scratch with your finger nail, it should be possible for it to be polished out with a machine polisher. I recently polished out a similar scratch on my brother's car; think it was caused by a careless shopper with a supermarket trolley. A few minutes spent polishing the scratch with my dual action (DA) polisher using an appropriate polish and pad combination removed it completely. Even if yours is too deep to remove it completely by machine polishing, as RUM4MO has said, it should be possible to improve it significantly by machine polishing.RUM4MO wrote: Tue Jun 20, 2017 8:51 am Edit:- not saying that I would go down this path as a repair, but I'm sure that a proper paint detailing person could hide/disguise that scratch to the level that if you were about to buy that car, you would not notice it - but that is the problem, you know where it is so will be looking for perfection understandably, so that is where the repainting that panel comes in as being the correct way to restore that car.
From your photo, your car looks as if it's Blue Silk metallic. If you go for respraying the bonnet, I'd check whether or not the new paintwork on the bonnet will be blended with the front wings; with metallic paint, just painting the bonnet might result in shade differences between the bonnet and wings.

Re: Alloys scuffed
Alloys depends who's doing them I got quoted £80 for cash in hand usually £100 only place worth going to in Northern Ireland or £100 for Pristine Wheels in England + postage (Hyper silver very hard colour to get right).
The scratch looks like it's possible to be polished out but can say for certain without being in person, £300 for a bonnet is a fair price for the work that actually goes into it, alternatively you could get a vw touch up pen touch it in and then get a detailer to wetsand the spot and level it out for you but could cost the same and may not match.
At the end of the day if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing right

Be careful when refurbishing Diamond Cut wheels, I've heard they can be very difficult to match to the original shade... make sure you are using a good reputable alloy repair shop...

Re: Alloys scuffed
Also, bear in mind that there is a limit to the number of times diamond cut alloys can be refurbished; usually no more than 2-3 times. The refurb process involves re-cutting the face of the wheel on a special diamond cutting lathe to remove the damage, and refurbishing more than 2-3 times can affect the structural integrity of the wheel, due to the reduced thickness that results from the re-cutting process.CGreen98 wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2017 12:13 am Be careful when refurbishing Diamond Cut wheels, I've heard they can be very difficult to match to the original shade... make sure you are using a good reputable alloy repair shop...
