funky electrics

Post by M@Turner »

Yesterday i was tinkering in the boot, and think i may have shorted something as i heard a crackle come from the boot interior light. When i tried plugging the interior light back in, it didn't work. And also, when i locked the car, the alarm made a couple more extra beeps when i locked it.

This morning i decided to check the fuses but took a couple of the wrong ones out before i found a blown fuse.

Unfortunately i didn't have a replacement fuse so left it out and went to work. On my way home i had the window down and pulled up to my house with the window still down. I turned the engine and ignition but my window wouldn't go back up like it used to, before the tinkering. And also my interior light didn't work. However, when i locked the car, the alarm beeped just the once like it used too.

Any ideas whats going off. Or should i just wait and see what happens when i replace the fuse. :!:

wait and see! Check all of em too.... The window fuse should be on a different circuit, so have a close look at em all - could be a coincedence.

Maybe the light circuit is on the voltage drop circuit on the alarm or something? who knows!

I was removing my boot interior light to install my LED light tube (home made) and i shorted the circuit.

Went to Halfords and purchased a new Fuse and everything is back to normal.

Mikegti: as for the alarm, when you lock the car with the RCL, the door pins drop down indicaters flash and it makes one beep.
When you open the car, pins come up indicaters flash and it beeps twice.

Thats what i think happens anyway.

It could be one of the many different variations between the GTi specs.

We will all have to compare our polo's at the Polo Show.

only 5b days to go!

It may be something that could be changed via the VAG-COM computer...may be?

My RCL doesn't beep, just the usual flashing indicators. Would be nice if it could be programmed to beep though. Sometimes I park up, walk into work, turn on the PC, make a cuppa and then wonder if I've locked it!! D'oh
