Blocked ECU

Anyone have any knowledge of this happening on the GTi. I got it serviced at a local VW specialist and got it checked on the diagnostic machine and it says that the ECU is blocked, along with a fuel breather valve shorting.

how bad is this, what sort of cost am i looking at for sorting this, the guy in the garage says that VW might be able to reset the ECU but at some cost, although it is able to drive at the mo!!!

Your help in this matter is appreciated as i'm travelling to billing on Saturday
