Installing auto headlights switch

Post by Black6c »

Hello, I have a 6c fitted with the light/rain sensor but no auto lights switch. I’m wondering if I can simply replace the switch for one with ‘auto’ position and update through Carista to have coming leaving home lights? Or is it more complicated? (i.e - replacing any wiring and what not).

Hi I am sure you will need a small light sensor fitted to the windscreen also

You may need to add a wire from the light switch connector to the BCM. Check slot 2 of the light switch connector.

You need a New 6C light switch with Auto function. (6C light switch, very important)

After that, the BCM coding for automatic lights. I do not know how to carry out this coding in a 6C, but I suppose it will be similar to how it is done in a Golf 7.

I already have one on the top of the windscreen (the oem one), just no switch.

Hi,
Thank you for replying! I acknowledge that I need the 6c light switch, I thought that because I already have the oem sensor its just a plug and play deal. When I'll have time I will further investigate on this. By the way - Does the new tiguan/ golf light switch will fit the 6c? Visually they're the same.
Cheers!

I've seen a few on eBay and this one :
https://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/produc ... ch-module/

I don't think the above kit will fit mine as the plug connector is the small pin type?

Can I kit be bought for a 6c ?

No. For the 6C you'll need the Polo 6C auto headlight switch (red illumination). Don't get the one from Golf 7, Golf 6, whatever. Polo 6C only.
Furthermore you must have the RLS installed in the front windshield, it often comes together with the auto breakaway interior mirror.

With VCDS, do the following:
09 Central Electrics
16 Security Access: 31347
Adaptations:
IDE04926-ENG116601-Komfortbeleuchtung-Coming Home Verbaustatus,automatisch
IDE04926-ENG116604-Komfortbeleuchtung-Coming-home Einschaltereignis,Driver door
IDE04926-ENG116605-Komfortbeleuchtung-Helligkeitsschwelle Infrarot-Messung,72.0

Okay so it's a little more in depth than these plug and play kits are suggesting?
I was told by one ebay seller that the golf mk7 kit would be a straight swap in.

Is this something vw themselves fit? I wouldn't even attempt to try mess with the VCDS.

Would this item work, if I bought the 6c auto switch separate?

Well I enquired about retro fitting the coming home lights feature today at my local vw dealership and basically unless I have thousands of pounds it not possible.
They said it would mean a new rear view mirror with sensor, light switch, all the appropriate wiring looms, new module, updating the programming and then fitting!

I think I'll just have to live without it.

If the car has the rain/light sensor in the base of the rear view mirror in the windscreen, that sensor is used (provided you get the proper wiring and coding). No need for the small sensor as shown in the kit you linked. However the kit with the small sensor included can be used if you don't have the rain sensor, and it should be plug and play, no coding needed. But it's not the "factory" way of doing it.

The plug and play kits include their own light sensor and control unit, which you can see in the pictures of the 6R kit you linked earlier. They are plug and play since they don't use the factory rain/light sensor of the car. But if you're looking for one of those kits, make sure it's for 6C.

That would be doing it the factory way, and yes, if your car doesn't have the rain/light sensor it would be expensive.

I know what the aftermarket kits include but they are all for 6r polos . I've yet to see one specifically for a 6c polo, and with the correct switch illumination colour.
I could be a new genuine switch and aftermarket plug and sensor but not 100% sure it would work?

Then there is the recoding that's need, I hate to fit something and it mess up the existing lighting system.
I also read that with the update kits for the 6r when on auto and you open the car door the car thinks youvd left your lights on?
