EPC warning Maximum engine speed 3000 revs

Just collected a September 2018 registered VW Polo SE from VW garage.
Driving it home the EPC warning code came on. Maximum engine Speed 3000 revs.
Was told it is unsafe to drive with this fault.
Has anyone else had this problem on a virtually new car?

Sounds like the car has gone into "limp mode" to protect itself. If this literally happened on the way home from the dealership, I'd be taking it back and swapping for another (If they have stock). Needs repairing ASAP.

Yup, limp mode.
Depending on the fault concerned, I'd also consider walking away from that one and getting another one.
It's possible it is a simple fix, like a hose that's come disconnected (happened in my Golf Gti).
Unlikely to happen again and not necessarily indicative of long term unreliability.
