N/S Front Window Regulator?

Need advice on Polo door/window mechanism. I lived in Cyprus for 4 years & when we returned to UK I left my Polo there for holiday use by family & friends. Lady has been using Polo and N/S window dropped and jammed half open, she tells me that she can hear electric motor running when trying to close window. My instinct is that a cable broke and a lifter kit required (same thing happened to driver door about 2 years ago) The lady has taken car to local Cypriot mechanic who can speak some english, speaking to him I think he is confirming about the overhaul kit but also saying something about a "broken panel" Any ideas what panel this is? In any advice be aware that there is only one VW agent in Cyprus and prices of parts and availibility reflect this, therefore I usually take small bits out in my cabin luggage!!.
