Loud clunk/knock from from left 2003 1.4 9n

Hi all 1st time post here, since changing the engine mounts I now have a really loud knock like the engine hits the bulkhead or something feels like the car has been hit every time it happens You can feel in in the passenger footwork that's where it feels like its happening it only happens when I lift on and off the accelerator at low speed and the car drives down also, and when I go in reverse,i have been reading up and could possibly be arb bushes Any help would be great thanks, Adrian

Could be the console bushes the wishbones locate into. These are very common for failure

I had to do these on my Polo soon after purchase at around 30K miles. I found a company online that rents the special tool to do it in situ. Not a particularly difficult job for anyone with mechanical skills.
