New Owner Polo 1.4 16V 2004

Hi Gang,

Bought my Mrs a little sliver 1.4 16V 2004 Polo for her first car while she is learning to drive, Its a little high millage (around 150K), but for the money I paid bargin.
Few little niggles I am slowly sorting out but nothing major.

I want to give the car a service and I have bought this -

I need to upgrade my tool box, what size sockets are the sparkplugs and what size sockets is the oil filter cap?.

Anything else you would recomened doing as well?

You might want to look at when the cambelt and ancillaries (rollers, water pump, etc) were last changed.

Regular oil changes with the correct oil are essential. I don't know that Miller's oil (you should check it meets VW spec) but for a vehicle with such high mileage I think a 5W40 or 10W 40 would be a better option. Any idea what is in it now?

As for the oil filter I use Mann W712/52 which has a hex drive (can't recall the size but of you stick to the same filter you're socket will fit).

I'll agree with that, well the 5W-40 option anyway, ignore a belt etc change at your peril I'd say, every 4 years for these cars to stay safe.

Funny enough it pretty much got fully service history untill 138k.

Cam belt looks like it done at VW around 80K, but that was around 2010/11.

Ill add the cambelt on to the list of things to do with the waterpump. Any idea where is the best place to source these parts.

I usually get a Gates kit including cambelt, waterpump, etc.
