Engine swap ideas?

Good morning
I was wondering for ideas what to do on a 1.4 16v polo 75hp. My blackbox insurance about to finish, and i want to start planning on uprating my 52 polo, I Want bigger bangs and louder pops with POWER (Jeremy Clarkson Voice) , I was thinking of doing a engine swap with a 1.8 engine but not sure what would fit my engine bay. I know it be easier to buy a exhaust system and mods, but I am open to ideas!
For exhaust systems where could I find them for my polo as I seen stock on ebay, euro and gsf and any recommendations for induction kits please

I think that you will not find anything that does much for that engine full stop, sorry as it is a bit of a slug, but a reliable slug.

I'd think that once you have got your insurance premium down, your plan should be to get another car as that will have served its purpose.

Modifying cars only works for the individual and I'm sure could be very rewarding, but getting sensible insurance cover at a sensible price will not be easy and moving that car on will be almost impossible unless you strike lucky and find someone who like you wanted something different.

It must be possible to fit a 1.8T into that car as later Polos had that option, but doing it, or even worse paying someone to do this work including sourcing/fitting the correct gearbox, subframe, electrical harnesses, fuel system etc, etc, etc, will cost tons more than getting a newer more powerful car.

We all can have dreams/ideas - I thought about doing that with my first car - then wakened up and saved for a newer one as amongst other things, as time goes on, an older car dissolves into rust so we end up losing everything.

Tend to agree with RUM4MO on this. Unless you have a burning desire to produce a custom vehicle it's likely not worth the time or effort.

I was totally thinking that, and it's very true its a reliable slug, but at 91k millage still good I Was planning on having her till she dies, mainly because I can't decide what to buy for second car, I want a another vw, but can't make the decision for a polo gti or golf gti... Plus thank for the help.

I've been running and maintaining my 2002 for 9 years now. Being and old vehicle there is always something that needs doing. On the other hand, it's a reliable slug (usually) and I don't have to be too concerned about it. Occasionally a job will come up requiring me to spend a hundred or two, but it's still very cheap motoring. The paintwork is looking a bit shabby in a few places so now I'm mulling over whether or not it's worth spending on that to make it easier on the eye.

At the moment I been thinking about getting it though the second mot, just few dashboard lights on and pig finding solutions that doesn't require a professional help, but it's kinda at the point thinking is it worth it and yet again millage is low enough that if I do spend couple hundred pounds on it getting it "road worthy" I will get another couple of years at of her, at the moment I'm being quoted for 1.8k for renewal in November without blackbox and roughly 2k for 1.8 gti [emoji848],so I can't actually decide what to do I passed driving last year November [emoji28][emoji6],

What is most likely to need replacing on the polo to keep her running well?, mine had new timing belt around 54k (previous owner) and mine needs two new engine mounts, airbag light on and broken wear sensor, I was debating on taking it to vw and spend some bucks on it or would it not be worth it and just get another polo?

What is the current odometer reading? That will help determine potential failure points and/or work required.

A good independent VW specialist will offer better value than VW. Not sure where you are located but someone might be able to recommend. I tend to do most work myself now but have have good experience with independents.

Getting another old/used vehicle you will always have some work to do.

Insurance is not only about cost, it is about risk. Try to manage (reduce) risk and build your NCB. I have two plain vanilla vehicles. If I ever found the time to pursue anything more exciting I would look at track day cars.

It's at 91k, and I'm down by London... So far what I have done is changed the backbox to oem new one as previous one was rusted away, new rear shocks and springs as previously worn(stock), new downpipe (stock)+ general service(filters, oil ect) I then had a little accident while ago, which triggered airbags, I replaced passnager airbag and drivers including seat belts (just driver) but airbag light still on, horn doesn't work after I changed the steering wheel and airbag. I got mot in November and two big issues is horn and airbag light. I went over a deep pot hole few months ago which torn apart my front brake wear sensor. I have invested a bit of time and money, but is it worth anymore money to get it mot ready?

I would invest in either a vagcom cable or a decent code reader that will clear airbag / abs lights.

I found out the problem, the airbag cable in the steering had a broken ground cable and need to get a replacement break wear sensor or wire old one back up some how, witb airbag getting that wire fixed soon and hopefully it reset it self or I will invest in a vagcom cable (can you prove a decent link to one)
