Shift Behaviour When Cold

Post by tom.wright »

Hi All,

New member here, have had my GTI+ since May and absolutely loving it! My first VW and ownership has been faultless so far.. hopefully not famous last words

Just wanted to ask a question, I have noticed now in this cold weather that the DSG is upshifting quite a bit later through the lower gears than it has been. Usually for the first few miles and then it seems to return to normal. It took me by surprise when I went to pull out of a junction as I'm used to it changing up at 2000rpm or so, but when cold it seems to hold on until about 3000. This is just in Normal mode. Is this normal for a DSG does it go through some sort of warm up process?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything. This is my first DSG box having been used to manual previously.

Thanks!

Perfectly normal behaviour for the first mile or so when the car is stone cold, to hold the lower gear longer - I'm presuming to either get the car to warm up quicker or for the clutch to avoid driving under high torque until the transmission fluid has warmed up.

Although there's plenty of torque to use, the DSG seems to prefer changing down rather than use it in a higher gear.
