2012 1.2tsi making noise

Hi there

I have a polo 1.2 tsi which I have recently bought, 43K on clock. I have serviced the car recently, when I turned on the engine it makes a horrible whirring noise, when I drive it gets louder, but as soon as I take it out of gear the noise stops!



Any ideas what it could be?

I'm guessing gearbox? Since it stops when you disengage a gear.

If this started after it was serviced, take it back ! What did they do ..........

So I took it to a mechanic and they said it’s the timing chain, which is going to cost me around £350 parts and labour!

Fingers crossed should sort the problem out!

Update,

Mechanic put the timing chain in, started the car and timing chain jumped, so he said he’s going get another timing chain tool and do it again

Any thoughts on this?
