Fuel filler door and overflow drain issues

These aren’t massive issues would just like to fix them. At most they’re an annoyance.

The overflow drain is blocked and not draining. Never overfilled with fuel so only found out while washing the car as a pool would sit and not drain as it should. I’ve tried letting some surfex HD sit in there to no avail and then some Tardis again which didn’t work. I’m guessing there’s a pipe there. Is there anyway to get it out so I can give it a good clean?

Another small issue is the fact that the fuel door and filler cap don’t lock. Car doesn’t have any central locking so the filler cap has a key lock. No matter if it’s locked or unlocked I can unscrew it with no resistance.

The fuel door also pops open and shuts as it should, however I can open the door without popping it open by just simply pulling at the gap around it and the button still stay pressed in. I occasionally notice that it’s slightly ajar after a couple days of driving.

Again not massive issues would just like to fix them and can’t find much about them.

Drain hole, I've used a long thin tie wrap to ease any gunge up and out in the past, then followed that will a few blasts of an air duster, ie compressed air in a spray can. There is a soft translucent length of pipe connected to the end of the stub of that drain point and it passes all the way down to the lower edge of the wheel arch liner. If you use too much force when pushing "things" down that hole, you might push that pipe off.

Filler cap that has a key lock in it, when it works as intended, I seem to remember that it should rotate freely when the cap is locked - so stop anyone opening it, so obviously when unlocked it should be fixed and allow the cap to be removed and re-fitted.

I can't comment on how the flap should work on a 9N Polo without central locking though as I've only had that system on a late 2009 Ibiza and its flap had a spring to keep it closed and a small cut out or something to grab and open the flap.

For the drain I never thought of using an air duster so I’ll give that a go.

As for the filler cap it will unscrew and open locked or unlocked so maybe the mechanism has failed within it.

With the fuel door there is some tabs on the door that go around the release but nothing for it to grab on to so maybe something has a fallen out but I’m not sure.

Overflow drain now drains . Few short bursts of an air duster with the straw shoved in did the trick.

Fuel filler cap does unscrew and can be taken off whether the lock is turned all the way right or left so I guess that the mechanism in the cap that would allow it to spin freely when locked is broken.

As for the door I took a look at a friends 2016 Fabia which is obviously much newer but has the same functionality other than that it has central locking where you push on the door to release it. It appears to have a latch of sorts on the door itself and a rectangular piece of plastic on the push button that pops the door out which latches onto the door (how I’m not sure). I couldn’t find this on my polo and it doesn’t look like anything has been broken off so I’m confused as I can’t imagine it was intended for the fuel door to be able to opened without pushing it in to pop it out but I could be wrong.

Now that you mentioned that, a car without central locking should still have the "press to release" function/lock/latch on the fuel flap - the cars with central locking have the extra locking function built into that lock/latch so that when the car is locked - "press to release" would do nothing and so leave the flap secured.

One maybe muppet on this or another VW Group motoring forum thought it was a far better idea to blast a lubricant spray down that drain hole - I suggested that that was not a smart idea as dirt would grip onto the initially clear and open drain pipe and block again quickly!
