BCM Upgrade

Post by Tex »

Hi,
I have a 6C with the Medium line BCM, i got a part number from VW for a Highline BCM compatible with my model, I read somewhere on this forum that it is difficult to upgrade/change the BCM as there is Component protection.

Has anyone here done a BCM upgrade, be it at VW or mechanic?
Can it be done at other places other than VW?

Thanks

For a polo 6C i'd definitely recommend to do it at the dealership

There are several steps that must be done correctly:

- With ODIS-E anyone can transfer all adaptation channels, and the coding (if necessary), from the old BCM to the new one. It is an important step for a subsequent smooth operation.
Not all channels are always transferred, but it can be verified by comparing files with WinMerge ... and then manually correcting the few that have not been transferred (e.g with VCDS).
I recommend doing this step outside a VW dealer, the operator/mechanic does not have to know the particularities of each car.

- At the VW dealer or via Online (with access to the VW servers) the component protection is verified and removed.
Once the CP has been removed, it is necessary to adapt the remote controls-keys.

Thanks Guys for the reply,
Iichel, I would like to do this at VW of course but they charging Eur 580 for the process which is to much and they dont have a guarantee it would work.

Thanks Ciclo for the steps, i will wait after the Covid 19 lockdown and will try find someone who has "ODIS-E" to do the transfer between the BCMs and will go to VW for CP removal.

Just quickly with regards to the remote control keys, do you mean getting the physical VW key fobs re registered to the new BCM/immobilizer?

Also is it possible for me to do this process with buying a BCM second hand or getting one off Ebay, will it still work, will VW still be able to do the CP removal and adaptions on a used BCM from Ebay?

Thanks Guys, much appreciated.

Yes as long as that component has not been reported stolen - that is a general statement concerning any/all used components that have CP.

In theory, a VW Group dealership will connect your car to VW Mothership, then the component that has CP enabled will get checked to make sure that it is okay to remove CP, if it is, it is converted/reverted to being a virgin/new component and then assigned to that car.

After that has been done, your old component will now be rejected by your car if you ever try to refit it and it will again require to have CP removed so that it can be reassigned to your car.

I'd doubt very much if a BCM will ever end up being logged as stolen, but that could happen to more expensive items like the infotainment system etc.

I took a risk and bought a used DAB Radio CD player from ebay to replace my non DAB Radio CD player in my 2011 Audi S4 and got my local proper VW Group Indie workshop to "sort it out" and that was easy, only took them 20 minutes and so I was only charged 1/3 hour tech labour.

sorry to bring up a old thread,

I made a booking with VW in May for a appointment on the 23rd of June, i had the parts etc, but VW was busy and only had a date in a months time, never the less, there is a head mechanic who knowss what to do and will be able to try and see if it works, So it i the 22nd and tomorrow im suposed to go to VW to get that BCM insstalled, VW called said they layed off the staff, you got to be kidding me, after 1 month of waiting they laid off the workers, and at no suprise the available mechanics that they still have can only help in another 3 to 4 weeks, so almost 2 months of waiting, but the catch is they have no clue what im talking about, they dont really know the term "BCM" they rebooked me and under work to be carried out they said to fix my composition colour radio, i tried explaining the BCM but they keep thinking its either the ECU or the actual radio.

The problem is i bought a used Skoda fabia BCM that matches the same part number for my car according to VWs database, It cost me quite a bit because it was difficult to find the ending letter that corrisponds with VWs database, the 30 day return ends this week, and i was supposed to have the bcm insstalled tomorrow so i know if it is working or not,

My question is, can i just plug this new/used BCM into my car just to see if the MFSW will work and then revert to my original one, i just want to make sure the Skoda BCM will work on my Polo to know if i must return the item or not.
\

Also on a side noite, i found a UK company "VAG Coding Specialist LTD" a month ago, they can remotely reprogram and remove the CP for me on the BCM, problem is im looking at 120 GBP for the OBD device and further 120 GBP for the labour for programming, this all excl shipping, they also said to me, if the new used BCM doesnt work or if they cant code it, or if the CP cant be removed or other issues, i dont get a refund and i loose 100 GBP from the BCM, and 240 GBP from this company so 340 GBP in total i would loose, so VW really screwed me with laying off the one guy in Lisbon that actually knows how to do this BCM retrofit.

Any help or tips?

Other VW dealerships refuse to carry out this work.

Also, because the BCM is used from Ebay, with regards to the imobiliser, will a used BCM allow me to wipe its old imobilier data and make it "Virgin" and allow me to code my imobiliser to it?

That is bad news, I thought the only aspect of any of these controllers that had CP was, has it been reported onto the VW Group information system as being stolen, if so, CP can but will not be removed. That restriction is in place to make any stolen parts useless and so reduce cars being stolen broken down into parts and these parts sold.

Thanks Ciclo :D

RUM4MO, you are right, however this was takend from a crashed car, so i doubt it has CP reported as stolen, Ciclo has helped me and im also looking at options from a VW technican, apparantly the BCM is having faults, it looks like its reporting random erros when trying to remove CP, he told me that its better to get other guys to fiddle as ODIS can only do so much from a VW garage.

Ill see how it goes else ill try see if i can get the Ebay seller to refund me a portion.

Thanks guys
