Assuming you still have the original factory alloys on at present (7Jx17” ET46 with 215/40 R17 tyres), the difference between your current set up and 7.5Jx18” ET46 wheels with 215/35 R18 tyres would be as per the screen shot below (from www.willtheyfit.com with the above details);

You’d need a 35 profile tyre on 18” wheels to maintain broadly the same overall rolling radius / circumference of the new wheel + tyre compared to the standard GTI wheel/tyre set up and to minimise errors in speedo accuracy. If you increase the tyre width above 215, then the sidewall height will increase, so the speedo reading error would increase, and you’d also increase the risk of rubbing issues.

If you input details of your car into the Tyre Leader website, it confirms that those wheels are certified for the 6R Polo GTI. If you click through to wheel+tyre packages, you’ll see that they’re also recommending 215/35 R18 tyres.

Those wheels should also be compatible with your existing wheel bolts and centre caps - confirmed on the Mak Wheels website, and as they have a 57.1 centre bore, there’s no need for spigot rings;

Whether or not you’ll experience any rubbing issues from the slightly wider stance with the new wheel / tyre set up on a lowered suspension set up will depend on how much your car is (or will be) lowered. With the standard ride height I’d say you shouldn’t experience any rubbing issues, although if you fit wider tyres, then you increase the risk of the tyres rubbing the wheel arch edge during hard cornering, when the car’s fully laden or when the suspension’s working hard on poor road surfaces.

Don’t forget to inform your insurer if you lower your car and fit new wheels to ensure you don’t invalidate your insurance.

Will work.
Wheel will sit very tucked in the fender.

I've been running 8jx18 with H&R springs and 3mm spacers up front and 5mm at the rear with 215/35/18 tyres.
