Cold Air Intake Opinions

Hey guys.

Looking to get a cold air intake fitted for the GTI. It's come down to either Leyo Motorsport or MST. Anyone done the same modification and have any general comments on this modification?

There are many tests done on cold air induction kit and they are a waste of money! You are better off putting a free flowing panel filter in the standard air box and wait till someone comes up with a better air box design. The only problem is the air maf sensor is fixed to
It. You are better off upgrading to a turbo muffler delete and hi flow turbo inlet elbow to get the most out of the air going into the engine. That’s what I’ve done so far plus next weekend engine remap and DSG map as well

At stock at least, there'll be more than enough air getting into the engine for the fuel supplied. Diesels combust fuel in a large excess of air, petrols don't - they stick to a stoichiometric ratio e.g.

C8H18 + 12.5 O2 > 9H2O + 8CO2. There's a calculated amount at every throttle input to ensure there's enough air provided to give an approximate 12.5 oxygen molecules for every molecule of octane ("Octane being representative of the average chain length and type of hydrocarbon in the mix of C4 to C12 alkanes, alkenes and alkynes that make up petrol)

If you put a filter in with a higher flow rate capability, the engine management/MAF will adjust to stop an excess going through.

Forget filter changes on stock power.

Cold air intake will sound much better. Of course that's an opinion in itself.
Though I doubt any performance gains will be pulled just from this modification on stock power.

Yeah that was one of my reasons for going down that route.

Think it would be good to have Matt if I plan on doing a stage 1 remap at some point?

Im gonna go Stage 1 once my warranty is up, when I do I will prob go for the MSI one, there are lots for Golf 7 I wonder if these would fit? And yes I know power isn’t increased but it’s worth it for the noise.
