Polo 1.4 Tdi How do i change crankshaft sensor?

Post by AntonioFrancisco »

hi guys, new poster here
i have a 2004 polo 1.4 Tdi that has an issue where sometimes its doesn't want to start (spray easy start to get it going) and then while driving it will cut out without warning. when it struggles to start, the engine will turn over but wont fire (eventually oil light comes on and 3 beeps happen if i try and turn it over for long enough). Have had a garage check the battery and alternator (free check) to see if that is the problem but came back ok.
when running it runs fine and pulls as should.
I have changed the cam sensor as that was a code that eventually came up but this hasn't cured it. I've also as a precaution changed the 109 relay as that seems to be quite common and changed the fuel filter.
Im picking up a diagnostic tool tomorrow to get codes out (changed cam sensor but haven't cleared the code) but most of the time the EML does not come on.

any suggestions where to look?
Ive also ordered a new starter motor as a friend of mine said i may have a "lazy" starter motor.

Thanks for any help in advance
AP

EDIT: Ok code update, I'm registering a P0727 code

Ive googled this to be the crankshaft sensor (G28), please correct me if wrong

can anyone point me to guide about where the crankshaft sensor is? apparently its behind starter motor which i have removed but I'm stumped from there

thanks

Ok so update guys and gals!
Right I found the crankshaft sensor eventually on the front of the block, what I didn't realise was that it is a bi hex socket to remove, so I chewed the end with hex and grips.
To resolve this I then proceeded to remove the entire front end of the car (a tip: there are 2 hidden bolts in the lower grill of the 9n to remove the bumper) and managed to get a drill with a bolt remover on it to remove it.
I had to loosen the oil pump (I think anyways, something oil related on front of block) in order to get the drill in.
Front end reassembled and a new bolt from VW (£1.69) I'm just waiting for a bi hex socket set to arrive tomorrow and hopefully with put the bolt in and this will hopefully cure the random cutting out while driving!
I'll hopefully post an update tomorrow saying all resolved and cured and driving again! (hopefully!!)
