Polo 1.4 Tdi How do i change crankshaft sensor?

hi guys, new poster here
i have a 2004 polo 1.4 Tdi that has an issue where sometimes its doesn't want to start (spray easy start to get it going) and then while driving it will cut out without warning. when it struggles to start, the engine will turn over but wont fire (eventually oil light comes on and 3 beeps happen if i try and turn it over for long enough). Have had a garage check the battery and alternator (free check) to see if that is the problem but came back ok.
when running it runs fine and pulls as should.
I have changed the cam sensor as that was a code that eventually came up but this hasn't cured it. I've also as a precaution changed the 109 relay as that seems to be quite common and changed the fuel filter.
Im picking up a diagnostic tool tomorrow to get codes out (changed cam sensor but haven't cleared the code) but most of the time the EML does not come on.
any suggestions where to look?
Ive also ordered a new starter motor as a friend of mine said i may have a "lazy" starter motor.
Thanks for any help in advance
