Water ingress/condensation problems

Post by Op97 »

I have had my polo gti for 4 months old from new and have started to notice water ingress/condensation problems.
I noticed my car steams up randomly when the car hasn't been used, also when it's cold there's a lot of condensation build up. When I got in my car last week I noticed ice had formed on the inside of the windows. I have also noticed my passenger side front carpet is damp and also the back passanger side carpet is soaking. I've checked around the door seals and they seem to be fine and underneath but couldn't see anything wrong.
I'm calling VW tomorrow to get the car booking in for investigation due to it only being 4 months old and under warranty (its been in twice with other problems since owning it, sound actuator fault and rear brakes), I was just wondering if any other polo gti+ owners have experienced this or if anyone has any information that can help me.

I also get an insane amount of condensation on the windows when its cold both while I am in the car and when it isn't being used but I hear that is a typical VW issue and had it in my old 2012 polo. Haven't used the car enough when it's been below freezing to comment on ice and I definitely haven't experienced wet carpets.

Needs a vax! I had this same issue with my polo. Turned out to be a huge amount of water in footwell coming from our shoes when we’re getting in and out when it’s raining. I used a Vax and it sucked up around a pint of water in the front and rear footwells! Once I hoovered it up and placed sheets over the floors, there has not been anymore condensation build up. Water builds up in the sound deadening material under the carpets if being used a lot in wet weather. I checked to make sure it's not a leak because since putting the plastic sheets over the carpets there has not been any water build up in the carpets for the 3 months since and while driving in heavy rain every now and then.

OP started two identical threads and both have been replied to so I thought I’d post a link to the other to join up the posts;

I’ve also asked forum admin to merge these two discussion threads into one.
