I had a new middle section on after i got a decat downpipe off hardhitter and its been back to the garage 4 times now because its blowing.
Its a waste of time me taking it back to them again and i would never use the company ever again (pm if you want theyre name as i dont wanna get in trouble putting it here).
Anyway, i was was wondering if anyone had any tips for sealing the damn thing once and for all before i get it welded in anger
Hi mate, sometimes exhausts refuse to seal up. It can be a real arse at times.
I've found a new weapon in the fight against blowing exhaust joins, it's called silicone sealant !
Undo the join where its blowing and seperate it a bit and smear the sealant around the pipe, then push it back together and clamp it up. The clamp might need to go closer to the end of the join. Smear it round so it covers the whole area.
Start it up and check for leaks. Repeat if it still blows until it's air tight.
Funny you should say that tahrey but thats the stuff challenger tyres and exhaust use and i spoke to two other people 2day who have recently had exhausts fitted by them, And they say theirs blow still too.
That gun stuff is thin as water.

its sh1te, i tried three times to repair a half-knackered exhaust with it following the instructions to the letter and it only made things worse.
when i finally had the cash to get it done right (spending on the repair kits didn't help), the bloke in the garage didnt mince his words over how thick i'd been to try it.....
an old bean can slit down the middle, a couple of strong wire ties and a bit of araldite would probably do as good a job.
(can't figure out how something you're suppose to apply - and remove - with water as a solvent is supposed to stand up to exhaust output... a major component of which being.... water!!! or rain, for that matter)
Over the weekend i whipped the middle section off and resealed it, all was fine and dandy...until yesterday when i thought i was being followed by a chav in a corsa only to realise it was actually my exhaust.
So its going to my local garage at dinnertime 2day to hopefully be sorted.
If not It will be saying hello to a new owner i'm that fed up of the damn thing.

its a funny old world, but I think most car paints used by the manufacturers when making a car are water based to reduce emissions.
I've used holts Fibregum on my GT wiothout problems
