Hi
I'm looking for advice about spare wheels.
My son has a new Mk 10 Active Polo, 1.0.95 TSI. Due to the shortage of cars, he bought a car from stock.
On collection, he found he has the tube of gunk solution, rather than a proper, full size spare wheel.
Now he's looking for a spare wheel with a tyre, but they are rare and expensive.for Mk10 Polos.
However, I see plenty of wheels for 2010-2017 Polos, at a more reasonable prices.
I've tried my own, factory fitted, Mk10 Polo spare in his car and it fits in the well in his car, so we know that the boot can hold the correct tyre size.
However, we don't know if a Mk9 wheel and tyre can safely be fitted and used as a road wheel on a Mk10 car.
Has anyone tried this already or can offer advice,, please?
We are looking for a steel, full size spare, not a space saver.

the bcd is the came, but the tire size is a bit different. so for an emergency, it's better than nothing. but it's far from ideal.

Re: Spare wheel fit between mks
Thanks for your reply,
Of course, safety is the first priority, but would you please expand on the size difference, I'm not sure what is different?
The tyre on my car is 185-60-15, my son's car has 195/60 15, so the overall diameter of the wheel is slightly different.
I have seen a supplier who advertises a full size spare which is claimed to fit all Polo's from 2010 to 2020, should I avoid these?

185/60 R15 is a smaller tire circumference than 195/60 R15. it's not much, but enough to send the TPMS and ESP systems into distress. it's fine to get to the next garage.

Re: Spare wheel fit between mks
Thanks, I see the problem now. I will see if a 195 6015 fits the boot well. But would the wheel (the metal part, steel) be safe to use, assuming I have the correct size of tyre?

I see no objection to this. If you're able to get a cheap/mildly used 195/60 tire, you can probably put that on the rim without problems.

Re: Spare wheel fit between mks
Thanks again for your help.
I'm confused now though.
I believe that the first 3 digits of the size define the width of a tyre, the second 2 define the height, as a ratio of the width. Then the next 2 digits the diameter of the rim, in inches.
So a 185/60/15 compared with a 195/60/15 will be 10mm narrower and 12mm less diameter (195-185,=10mm,x0.6 for width to height ratio, then X2 for both sides of tyre). So the 185 is 10mm narrower and 12mm less diameter. I understand this could well confuse the cars monitoring electronics.
If I buy a 195/60/15, as fitted to the car's existing wheels, this will be correct, fit and be safe, assuming that the tyre is a good quality, adequate tread etc?
Or should I look for another option, maybe a space saver? I don't like the space savers because they are narrow and have minimal tread.
In the event of a puncture, the car would be driven as short a distance as possible on the spare, at low speed and have the normal wheel refitted as soon as possible.
I'm sorry to ask you again but safety is my first priority, but not paying VW's high prices needlessly.
