I reckon that my pedal box has gone again as trying to find gears in damn near impossible.

I noticed over the last week that the clutch was squeaking and then at the weekend i found it difficult to engage most gears.

What are the chances that if i go back to the dealer who replaced it the last time it snapped that they will tell me it is something different and try to charge me for the work. How long would it take for them to check to see if it is and would i be able to view them doing it.

as you will probably guess from this post, i hate my local dealer and thnk that they are at the rip-off every time i use them.

I am pretty sure this is the same problem as it happened the same way the last time it snapped.

Can you not take it to a different dealer and get a second opinion?

Sorry can't think of anything else that is of any help! d'oh!

If is the same problem I would have thought that the dealer should be able to fix it free of charge as there should be a 12 month warranty of the work they do, am I correct in thinking that?

I gotta admit the whole pedal box issue is a bit of a 'mare for some of us GTi owners, isn't it!

After getting mine done, and after the clutch cable failing (and being replaced on the last day of warranty thankfully), I'm really trying to be careful with the clutch and gearbox, and am always paying attention to how it feels, and especially how reverse gear is, you know, with the grinding and gnashing of cogs and all that, but at the end of the day we shouldn't have to be worrying about whether or not the gearbox/clutch/pedal box assembly is at risk should we? We should be able to have confidence in the work that has been carried out by qualified VW technicians shouldn't we??

I was happy with the service from my local dealer, they were prompt in getting the recall done, and with every other issue I've had, and I've so far had no trouble with any of the repair work that has been performed. Seems I'm one of only a very few who can say that though... kinda sucks doesn't it. :x

If you can trace the problem back to the pedal box recall, then great. But I bet your instincts are spot on, and you'll be told its an unrelated issue :roll:

BTW: cyhliu, you would be correct there, all work carried out by a dealer is under warranty for 12 months, it says so at the top of the receipt :)

Interesting what you say Si_GTI, but I never got a receipt for any Pedal Box Recall work - it was a FREE safety recall :?:

Therefore, you have no re-dress unless you are able to point out to the dealer that you have problems that they caused due to the work undertaken :oops:

They do not have to provide a receipt for any subsequent fixes made thereafter if related to the original Pedal Box work either as it was FREE work.

Basically, if you take the car back immediately after the work the same day, they cannot refuse. But if it's the next day, then they can claim it was caused by something else. It is that simple in law as well. :(

I never had a receipt for any work done under warranty unless I paid for something else at the same time, e.g. key fob, wiper blades. However, the dealer will put an entry on their system every time the car has been in, surely? Therefore they should have a record of any work (including the pedal-box recall) that has been carried out at any authorised VW branch in the country, that is therefore presumably under the same guarantee as any other work they do, regardless of whether a paper-based receipt was issued?

I believe I made an assumption based on a combination of what I have read on the forum and my own experiences :roll: lol I might go ask at the dealer up the road and find out for myself...

Strange this...I've had a receipt for every bit of warranty work done to my car...and believe me I have quite a collection...even the pedal box, I'm sure had a receipt and I believe they do log it on the system, especially the pedal box recall...what you can do is give Customer Services a call and I'm sure they will be able to check it out for you...

I asked the staff at one of the dealers once to check something for me (how many times had the boot lock been looked at...) and she showed me the system and scrolled down...everything had been logged in since I had bought the car a year ago...

I have a receipt for the work carried out on the pedal box because i had to pay for it when it snapped last December.

I am getting the clutch adjusted to see if that sorts it on Monday, if not then it's straight to the dealer to get them to check the pedal box, if it's not that then they are being told not to do the work and i'll get it done elsewhere.

your correct guys . when i was buying my gti i asked for a print out of all the work that had been done to the car including warrenty claims recall work and servicing the lot . So dont be blagged by your dealers . i have it in black and white and know everything about mine .

I had a reciept for the pedal box replacement as the the car was out of warranty and I had to pay half. Hopefully getting that money back, seams to take forever though. I also got a reciept for the recall work as not all the parts had been replaced first time around. All info is kept on VW computer at dealer. After pedalbox replacement (both times) some adjustment was needed to cables (gearbox/clutch). Yet another visit !!!

Well just to update, the clutch is gone not the pedal box. It is currently being replaced at a cost that i am not certain of yet!!

I hate to say this but i think that this is the straw that broke the camels back with my polo gti and i may be selling up shortly!!

It may not be your clutch... it may just be the clutch cable adjustment... check out my thread on adjusting the clutch pedal so it doesn't stick.

It was the clutch, it was apparantly a mess so the car has now been fitted with a brand new clutch and is running like a dream!! And all for £200 thanks to a mate!

Really good to be able to drive the car as normal now, but the idea of replacing it has stuck and will probabvly sell it in the new year.
