Bye bye gti….and VW!

Post by lancslad1985 »

Well it’s come time to say goodbye to my GTI. Realistically I knew I’d made a mistake switching back from the Tiguan a bit ago but my wife hadn’t quite reached that point. Well she did late October on a long trip up to Scotland when, 80 miles into the journey, she turned to me and said “you need to change your f***ing car…” The constant drone of the tyres and wind on the m6 North finally broke her. My darling 11 year old also whinged about the lack of space, vent and armrest in the back.

I’ve flip flopped between small fast cars (Polo Blue Gt, Polo GTI, golf GTD) and large slow family cars (Troc 1.0L and Tiguan 1.5) for a while but with no deposit as it was always a VW so the minor changes up and down in payment didn’t bother me. So this time I’ve gone for a moderate speed car that will fit my daughter and dog comfortably in the back.

I’m leaving VW for Japanese shores with the CX30 which has lots of nice physical buttons and no sliders or stupid awful touchscreens like the current golf and new Tiguan. I’ll still be around from time to time as we are keeping my wife’s r-line as the dog gets the whole back seat as we never use it for family trips, but I’ll be on much less. Having been a member here nearly ten years it’s a great forum with a good bunch of people, so hopefully you’ll all still be here when I pop back occasionally.

I do like Mazda’s CX30, and the styling of Mazda’s current model range. My next car may well be a non-VW, although I don’t change my car that often (usually every 4.5 - 5 years), so if VW - and the wider VAG - get their act together in the next couple of years and sort out the software issues that continue to blight many of their models, I may change my mind. However, having owned VW’s now for 21 years, I feel a change of brand could be refreshing.

Good luck with the new car and don’t be a stranger to the forum. I’d be interested to hear how you’re getting on with your new CX30.

All the best!

Cheers SRGTD. I’ve had it a day - the fit and finish is already better than any VW I’ve had, the infotainment on my car seems to have zero lag and using buttons when driving again feels so much better. Will have to see what reliability is like over time but it’s already a nicer place to be.

Maybe I’ll come to miss my VWs in time but so far I’m a pretty happy camper.
