Key Fob Question - Urgent

Hello,

In a bit of a panic.

The blade broke off my key fob (metal surrounding holding it in place fell off). So I had another old key fob from another identical car which I used to install the old blade by removing the pin. (also took battery out of fob to avoid conflict)
I then put both fobs on the same key ring and tried to start the car, but I get an error Immobiliser active.

Does this mean that the key fob chips are passive and therefore confusing the car?
I tried to start the car again with the old blade with pliers and original fob next to it, but still get Immobiliser active.
Have I damaged the immobiliser?

Please help!

Most likely, the Immobilizer reader coil/ring is not detecting the key-remote transponder.

I remember that when I did tests for my instrument clusters on the test bench the remote control had to be 'perfectly' placed in the reader ring.

Hopefully someone else can tell you some tricks to solve it...

If the glass capsule inside ( immo chip) the fob didnt shatter then its completely fine.
( and i highly doubt its broken)

you can easly fix your key, put a new blade on

My key got washed in the washing machine 🤦, and everything works

the surrounding metal case that holds key in place is broken, so needs a new fob/key
my q is why wont it read the transponder chip anymore, I got it to work yesterday by having it close when turning blade with pliers.
But after when I had 2 transponder chips close it dont want to read original one anymore.

ok finally got it started.
now just need to get a new fob/key.

Great! the immobilizer reader coil just wanted to read the wrong transponder to bother you.... :lol:
You need a new key/fob structure to transplant the electronic part of the broken key.

I wonder how the key could have broken, were you opening beers with it?

Maybe, if you were really really brave, you could locate the immob pellet - looks like a small tablet > capsule, and ease it out of the broken plastic housing and swop it with the one in the replacement plastic housing.

I've never had to do this, but I did prepare for needing to "get" a replacement key(s) many years ago when I found and bought, via ebay, a "new" fob for my 2000 Passat and wife's 2002 Polo - but stayed lucky and never needed to make use of them!

Edit:- if it helps, you tend to find, or used to tend to find, people on ebay selling the metal version of the part that holds the key for this type of VW Group fob, I bought 2, one for my key for my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL, and one for her key, maybe to make things look smarter!

Anyway, after showing my wife, my key with the chromed metal end on it - she just said "hum, that makes the key fob a lot heavier" - of course she is correct, but I'm sticking with that for my key!

Another edit:- the actual part that is broken might even be available as a spare part from VW - just a suggestion as I'm not sure about that, it is fixed on to the main part of the fob using a very small screw.

I replaced the key case on my wife’s Blue GT when the original was damaged. Replacement key fob shells are readily available on eBay for around £6. Mine came with a new blank key, so I discarded this and fitted the key from the old fob. I dismantled the old fob and transferred the small pcb from this to the new fob. The transponder chip was mounted on this pcb, which also contains the circuitry for the remote locking.

Easy enough job if you’re used to working with small parts. Once the battery cover and battery are removed there is one small countersunk screw (with a tiny torx head) which needs to be removed to allow the case to be taken apart. There is also a cover over the pcb. This has been glued on, and needs to be carefully prised off with a scalpel or similar tool.
