12V inside door cards when light are on
Hi , I'm trying to find a 12V(maybe even 5v) point inside the door cards that is live only when the lights are one. Want to wire up some ambient lighting in the door handles.
Is there something like this? How about the rear doors? I don't have electric windows there so I'm not sure what electronics are inside them

on the front you could use the illumination of the window/mirror switch. i'm not sure it's a very good way of powering LEDs with a power supply.
a better way would perhaps be to route the 58 signal from the dimmer input via a new wire.

I was hoping to tap into something inside the door card for a quick job. Why do you think powering it like that is not a good idea?

I had a few customers that suffered from buzzing sounds on the inverter and flickering of the other interior lights. If you just put an led it should be fine. If it's a led with a power supply or inverter you might run into trouble.

Its just a 3/5mm basic led. Nothing fancy. Should be fine I guess?

Is there any way to remove the passenger door window switch without removing the door card?

Be careful the old plastic is pretty brittle and can break easily.
*source, me 30 minutes ago breaking the tab that holds the housing in by just barely touching it

I either am the hulk or the plastic was already damaged. I don't really know which one it is. Fixed the tab tho.
Also finished the install of the leds.
Here are the pictures of how they look at night. Not perfect, I wish they would light the armrest a bit more, but this is nothing an led lens cant fix(or even a different shape led). I wired them up with plugs so I can remove the leds and change them at will without having to re-wire everything. The photos look a lot more bright than they really are. I would say the intensity is at 2/3 or even half in real life. A very lovely side-effect is since they are wired to the button illumination they are controlled by the light power wheel next to the steering wheel making them dim at the same time with the rest of the lights Even though its not perfect, I can't help but feel good about doing something like this. With the led footwell lights I had wired to the light switch and these new light in the doors it gives me a nice feeling when I look at the car with the door open.
.
Struggled to drill the holes since my smooth brain couldn't visualize where the holes would end up on the other side. Because of the shape of the handle I couldn't really have the led be straight down so there is kind of a hot spot on the door near the led. Not that visible, also fixable with an led lens of different shaped led. The leds are 5mm and there are lots of different lenses and shapes to chose from, each having a different light pattern.
Here is a photo of the led
My car is an R-line Shein edition but I like it a lot.
