Anyone have any experience / know of anyone who has experience adapting a mk1 golf gti remote brake servo to fit a mk2 polo? I bought the servo because the guy only wanted a tenner for it (I love my scrappie

Scrapyard fun
I went to my local scrappy this afternoon to try and get myself a weber carb off an old formel e that was there.. sadly they'd stuck the formel e on the big pile which no one's allowed to venture onto, but I did find some other niceties - an F reg mk1 golf gti cabriolet and an H reg scirroco gt
Cue brake mods from the golf and seats from the scirrocco
(I'm hoping they'd fit better than the golf gti seats I have now.. the seat posts are a bit different to the polo ones, and the drivers seat sits too high at the back and the passenger's seat doesn't slide anymore). Problem is, the golf has had one corner completely smashed in, not sure if the o/s brake calipper will still be useable (or retrievable, the lovely alloy wheel that was there is now a less lovely mangled mess wrapped around the brakes..)
I'll take a look into that tomorrow though

), but I'm not sure if I'm going to have the knowhow to fit it.. any advice would be appreciated

They're all VWII callipers, they should be fine.. I actually ended up with one scirrocco caliper and one mk1 gti caliper, but they're identical as far as I can see. Got the carriers as well, cost me £15 in total
I'll see if they fit this afternoon, then I'll get pads and discs ordered up whenever funds allow..
I've given up on the servo idea, looked far too complicated to fit for my liking - couldn't even work out how to get it out of the golf in the first place!

I tried the calipers on and they fitted, but one of the calipers had a perished seal which I stupidly didn't check when I bought it, and I haven't got round to replacing that and getting the discs and pads for the conversion yet, so I'm afraid I can't tell you how much better they are. Can't exactly get any worse though

Well, the calipers are necessary to fit golf gti discs, which are ventilated rather than solid. There are also more special discs and pads available for golf's, drilled/grooved etc should you want that sort of thing.. personally I just wanted vented discs to get rid of some of the brake fade that you get with the standard brakes.
You'll want to look for calipers stamped 'VW II', they're found on late mk1 GTi's, all mk2 GTi's, mk2 scirocco's and I think mk2 passats although don't quote me on that one. Just look for vented discs and a 'VW II' stamp though, they're pretty common
