Central locking remote not working but all else ok?

Evening all and hope everyone had a great Christmas.
My car 2015 Polo 1.2tsi SE, 4dr
After a few days rest we went to start the car today, gained access via the remote as usual, checked the lights, forgot something and came back inside.....the remote locking doesn't work ? It now won't open or close via the remote. I can start and drive it ok, and all seems to work as normal. If I hold the fob button down I can open and close windows so the car is seeing the key fob. It is perhaps intermittent whether I can always hear the door locks open and close using the internal door lock switches and sometimes by using the key in the driver's door. I don't get indicators flashing but they do flash once when I close the windows with the key fob. Frankly, I'm stumped. Can anyone offer any advice please before the dealers open up again in January. My wife mostly drives it and will be going back to work soon. I do have a replacement fuel flap switch on order as this has been playing up recently and wasn't always locking.
I've tried the procedure to reset the keys as in the manual but no joy, as above the windows open and close using the fob.
I feel I must have done something dull but have no idea

Oh, the steering lock doesn't engage now either, never noticed a problem before. I can't think that it's related.
