Hi guys,

Awesome thread! Helped me find the right fuse for the starter relays.

I am trying to isolate which starter relay is designated activation starter relay 2 but I cannot find any relay layout diagram. I did pull out 2 relay; one looks like an aftermarket Tyco and the other a Bosch.
The car is a RHD and the bosch was closer to the driver side door and the Tyco came out from the left side or closer to the centre of thr car. I realised if I leave the start/stop system activated with a 5 A fuse, it will blow after a few times and the EPC light comes on and if i turn the car off I cannot restart it till i put the fuse back in. I have put in a 10 A for the time being just incase I forget to turn the system off.

Wanted to know if the 2 starter relays are the same and if anyone can tell me the part numbers and a layout diagram that distinguishes between activation starter relay 2 and starter relay 1?


Am I right in assuming J906 is starter relay 1 and J907 is activation starter relay 2? I suspect the starter relay 2 is on its way out..

An update; I bought access to erwin and in the relay documents it says that J906 and J907 are located in the engine compartment! Additonally there is a foot note saying these 2 are in the e-box?

Can anyone comment on this please?

Well there is an E-Box in the engine compartment, so that is plausible.

Is e-box another name for the fuse box?

No they are separate items but there don't seem to be any in your e-box.

In an automatic is the relay J907 the activation relay 2 and would it be the neutral transmission switch?

I split the topic but I dont know right now. Might help to tell what car we're talking about. I deduced it's a Polo 6C but more info could be helpful.

The car is a 2017 Polo 1.2 TSi Bluemotion.

So a bit more detail:

Fuse SC33 keeps blowing and the car gives the codes attached.

If I give direct 12V to the starter the car starts but not through the ignition. Based on the wiring diagram and the fuse layout for post Nov 2014: the fuse SC33 is for the clutch/ Neutral/ Parking transmission switch, the 2 starter relays J906 and J907.

I am thinking if the activation starter relay 2 is shorting to ground causing the fuse to blow its probably something in the coil side so the relay itself of the neutral switch is shorting to ground? I am not sure how the neutral sensor works but in older cars it would short to ground anyway so im leaning towards a relay failure?

Any advise would be welcome and appreciated!

Also noticed on the vehicle card that this is a 6R and not a 6C!! I thought 2014-2017 were 6C's.

Incorrect.

They’re not separate items in this instance, there are 3 relays mounted on a circuit board inside the E-Box.

R1, R2 and R3. The two starter relays and a main relay. Unless you’re a real electronics whiz, the only way to replace these relays is to replace the complete E-Box. They’re not particularly expensive though, just over £90+VAT from a dealer.

I know this thread is a few months old, so this may have already been sorted, but I think a lot of people would get caught out looking for these relays, which are completely hidden, so worth adding the correct info to this thread to help anyone searching.

In this case, 'permanently installed' or simply 'included in position 21' is certainly something vague and open to interpretation... how about 'non-removable'.
VW produced the 6C very quickly...
Was it the first time that VW changed platforms on an Face Lift -PQ25 Flintstones car to PQ26 mini-pseudo MQB-?
