Intermittent Heavy Steering

Hi all,

I have a 2016 Polo 1.0TSI, and once in a while I get heavy steering but not sure why.

Not heavy as in no power steering, but i do sometimes have to turn with two hands. I have never had a steering light come on though which is weird.

It has had a used Gearbox fitted about 18 months ago, and clutch, but didn't think this could cause it?
Also, it was in a front end crash but this was 4/5 years ago and the problem started after.

I have also fitted a 640EN 650AH EFB battery in the last 6 months, it is a Drivetec battery, which are made by Yuasa as far as i know.
I do get a start stop error on the dash sometimes, but goes away with a restart or something.

Unsure where to start as I do not have a lot of money. I do not have VCDS for the next few weeks, but I do have a Thinkscan 689 Scanner, so will get it scanned at some point to see if any faults come, and if anyone can suggest some live data that i could look at then would be great.
