Afternoon everyone,
I am new to the Polo forum, I usually hang out on the VW T4 forum and my Youtube channel. " Tony Hillyard"
A question please. My Polo is a 2012, 1.6 turbo diesel Polo Match three door. Bought it new here in France, she has now done some 200,000 kms, a superb vehicle.
My question, is it possible to set my car up with a hands free mobile telephone arrangement. I checked the handbook, nothing mentioned. I checked on Youtube, nothing helpful there. Perhaps there is a way of changing a switch or something to enable an iPhone to be connected.
Why I ask, when I bought my 2001 VW T4 van new here in France it had electric windows and central locking, but no cruise control. I did some research on the T4 forum and it was mentioned that T4s had two types of ECU. A basic one for a basic van, and a more comprehensive ECU for vehicles fitted with more accessories (central locking/electric windows) plus all the other accessory options built in but not obvious or connected. So it appeared my van had cruise control fitted but hidden.
Via the T4 forum I found how to upgrade my van to enable me to use the cruise control "hidden" in the system. It was a case of buying a new VW part/switch and fitting it. So now I have cruise control!
My thinking is, if that was possible on my T4, if my Polo did not come with an obvious smart phone connection, is there a similar function tucked away in there somewhere? Perhaps by modifying something, as on my T4?
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Re: Connecting a smartphone to my Polo system
Those ECUs would the BCM (Body Control Module).
On the 6R Polo it would be done through the infotainment unit. You'd need to upgrade that to one that has a Apple CarPlay or Android Auto feature.
Depends on which infotainment/radio you currently have.
Since it's 6R not 6C it's possibly way simpler.
ciclo and ichel will be along soon with more useful advise.

RCD 310?
It's possible by installing a VW telephone module.
You'll also need to install the VW microphone in the interior light dome.
Eg:
7P6035730 A / B / C / D / E / F / G / H / J / K / M / N / P
5K0035730 A / B/ C / E / F / K
1Z0035729 A / B / C / D / E
5N0035730 A / B / C / D
3C8035730 A / B / C / D
... and other OEM and not OEM Modules.

Re: Connecting a smartphone to my Polo system
Salut!
I bought a 2011 6R and unfortunately it didn’t have Bluetooth either.
I have the RCD310, and there’s an option to turn Bluetooth on and off, so I was really confused about why I couldn’t find or pair it with my phone.
I wanted to add Bluetooth, but everything should remain original.
After a lot of research (which was actually harder than I expected to find the correct information), I found out that I need to buy the Bluetooth module and the harness to install it under the passenger seat. In addition, I also need to add a microphone under the interior light dome.
What I did was buy the 7P6035730K, which I think is the most up-to-date option for my situation.
I also had to buy all the other components (harness, mic) from https://www.carsystems.eu/bluetooth-ins ... id124.html.
I haven’t had the time to install everything yet, but as soon as I have it all working, I’ll give you an update.
I also just discovered that I need to change my interior light dome, because it doesn’t have the slot for the microphone, since the car didn’t come with Bluetooth when it was bought.
I need to replace mine (6Q0947105F) with the 6R0947105.
