Engines

Post by Guest »

Can anyone recommend a decent engine swap for my car!

it's currently a 1.3cl, so most engines are an improvement.

i'm looking for an engine that has power as standard as the car is a daily driver, so it needs to be reliable. Also, as I'm only 19, an eye needs to be kept towards insurance premiums (so no 400bhp 1.8T engines Josh!).

one last thing. i dont want a VR6. they are too common and they screw the handling up.

apart from that, any opinions are welcome.

Cheers

I wonder what JBS have done with the 1.6 8v that used to be in their Polo G60?

Give them a ring on 01246 550 400...

If you want a bit more than that, what about a 2.0 (8v or 16v) VW or Seat... Although, the 1.6 8v should just drop in.

Nice to see you in the forum!

What about a 1.4 16v lump in there?? 100BHP straight out of the Box and it'll drop straight onto ur existing engine mounts too!!

The 1.8L and 2.0L golf and Ibeza engins are a right pain to get into the Mk4 as is has a lower bonnet line you ether end up using a finky angle or mounting the engine with a very low crank case. Your best bets are a 1.6 16V from the Mk5 GTi or the 1.3 G40 from the Mk3 G40 but if you have a few grand to spare and don't mind the handeling sufering a bit then the 2.8L golf or 2.9L corrado VR6 lumps will go in.

basically your blessed! get a g40 dropped in. great tuning possabilitys. i want, but i have a 1.4 8v and the engine mounts are different to the g40, yours is the same basic block, and so shares the g40 engine mounts. GO FOR IT!

Check http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk for more details on the G60 MKIV (Look in the Feature Cars section)... It'll be in PVW soon methinks

It sounds awesome, infact it sounds wrong :D you shouldn't hear that coming out of a MKIV!!!

like ppl are saying, put a G40 engine into it. sum1 on porka.net can apparently get G40 engines out of LHD cars for very good prices.

u'd get 112 bhp straight away & much more for a little more effort. 150bhp is not un-common for G40's

Have a look at www.vr6-umbauten.de or visit www.probstiger.de

That last one is a wagon (bigger engine bay) but with a G60 in it... Wicked.

If its simplicity u want then the 1.4 16v makes sense but if u goin to want more power down the line, as we all do, u might be better goin for the G40, it supercharged and thats a really really good thing, just look at that mk1 golf g40 in pvw not long ago, that was seriously quick! the g40 will give u big smiles when first fitted but it also gives u the scope to hike the power later on.
