Mk2/Mk3 how low can you gooo?

Post by mk2keel »

I was thinking about 60mm drop on 14" wheels with 50profile tyres but just out of interest how low can you go on 14" wheels, i dont want to go down to 13" wheels because i want my speedo to be mildly accurate.
Next thing is what is the best ride height for the RS bumpers, will 60mm do or do i need to go lower?

Can i go to 80mm with 14" wheels if i get the arches rolled?

Hmmm. I know that someone has gone 80mm on coilovers with the standard 13" steels, and there were one or two at Polo Show lowered 70mm on some phat 13"s. I think envy is -60mm on 15"s. Not sure what you could get away with on 14inchers though. Don't know if thats any help?

Karl.

Hmm. Surely the 14" wheels will put your speedo out, not the 13" ones? Given that mk2's all came with 13" as standard...

Groovy Carrot- i think he means?- if he puts low profiles on the thirteens''

Anyway Ive got r15 195\45 tires on my 15s,6.5 inch wide [speedo is still accurate]. Its lowered -40mm and I have spaced the rear wheels. To be honest with you, without arch work i woud say you coud go -40mm back and -55mm front using lowering caps on 14s with 50' tyres on them.
My car couldn't be any lower on the back thats for sure!
It depends what thickness of wheel you want to run. Personally if you want to go for the low decked look, either;
Go for ATS 13s slammed 60mm or 15s 40mm.
Thing is with 15s there isnt hardely anything between the arch and the wheel but the car is higher [greater difference between road and sill]- it still looks the mutts nuts though with the wheels tucked in the arches. But if you want old skool go for 13s.
With 13s [low profile tyres] you get the opposite, the car is very low [sill to floor] but the wheel to arch distance is greater. Personally i prefer 15s on my car. good luck with what ever you chose let us know how you get on, jus one more bit of advice; avoid rolling arches as cars as old as ares have fairly brital metal that when banged or formed can easily crack [hope you got a welder handy!]. :lol: :)
