Hi All,
I recently bought a 'barn find' 2006 Polo 1.2 6V, that has done 60,000 miles from new.
It had a misfire and a compression test showed that cylinder 3 was very low and 1 and 2 were ok.
I took the head off and sure enough the exhaust valve was falling apart so I had new exhaust valves and guides fitted and the seats reground.
I put it all back together with new head bolts, gaskets and a timing chain kit. I followed the correct tightening sequence when I did the head bolts.
When I started it up it ran very nicely and i let it run for about 10 minutes thinking it was all good.
The next day I started it up and it was misfiring. I checked the cam timing and that is spot on so I did another compression test and now cylinder 1 had 60 psi and the other two are 180.
Any idea what has gone wrong ? Do you think the head gasket has gone ? Or could I of not fitted a rocker correctly ?
Please help !
Cheers
Richard

Re: Engine help needed please !
Unfortunately looks like a another valve problem (No1), this was a well known problem and No3 did seem to be the one that failed most often,No3 exhaust valve failed on my wife's 2005 9N at 34558 kms, 21,473 miles, almost 3 years from new but from about 6 months onwards was developing a miss very occasionally, due to what appeared to be one of the valves sticking as the compression pressure would drop to ~ 80 psi and then recover. I made the main dealer aware of this several times and they installed a new cylinder head with a 75% goodwill gesture.
Looks like unfortunately, that you will have to remove that head again.
