Just had my GTi serviced at the VW dealership in Sheffield, she needed her 40k as well as finally getting round to the pedal box being replaced (which was done for free).
She'd developed a bit of a funny squeak going round corners or over bumps so I asked my brother (who took her in) to ask the guys to have a look at it. I've been out of the country for 2 months and have just come home to discover a £520 bill including £178 for a new silencer. Apparently the "exhaust centre box bracket" had come loose and needed replacing (not tightening up?) or it was "going to fail its next MOT". £178!!! Have I been had?
This, plus £240 for a service(!!) has left me feeling a little violated. What's up with these dealerships? An additional £100 for 2 new tires and I've completely broke. Does this sound extreme to anyone else or am I making a fuss over nothing?
they may have tried to check but I was on a large grey warship 6000 miles away in the middle of the Indian Ocean. To be honest I would not have known any better and would probably have told them to carry on anyway. That's the problem, I'm not in a position to argue when it comes to cars.
As said, the centre exhaust brackets go every year or so - design fault. The squeak is probably your brake pad on disc. Mine does it too - another common fault. I had mine checked and they said they shaved a bit off the brake pad!!!!!! What? Anyway, it still does it going round bends... the wheels dont help as they "flex" when cornering allowing the brake pad to just touch on the disc. I'd try taking your wheels off the front and cleaning up the inside of the wheels where they join the wheel hub and putting them back on with a single hand push on the bolts all round - don't do them up too tight as the bolts can seize.
I had the same prob the squeak wasnt your brakes it would be the exhaust rubn of the fuckd bracket. Mine went and this would hapen squeaked on corners and bumps. just the fuckd bracket rubn.
thanks for all the help guys, I'll try and make sure I have the opportunity to shop around a bit next time - not to mention take full advantage of all the expertise in this forum!
